I’ve been going to this gym for just under a year, the experience has been good until recently. One of the owners (Steve) has come in and begun to enforce some rules (such as wiping down equipment or re-racking weights). He is doing this along with another employee by the name of “Rock.” I have no problem with following rules, when they actually make sense and when they are presented in a respectful/civil manner.
However, my experiences with them have been anything but pleasant. I and my gym partners (who are all in our teens or 20’s (except for one guy who is in his 40’s)) have been literally screamed at by Rock about dropping a weight. This wouldn’t be a problem if it wasn’t for an older gentleman who also dropped a weight near us.
I have also been pulled aside by Steve and rudely been told that he will weed out any people who are not serious about the gym. Again, I wouldn’t have a problem with this if it weren’t for a man in his mid 30’s walking by us and Steve saying nothing. On top of that, when he was done fear mongering me (or at least trying), he pulled aside another person who was similar to my age (late teens—early 20’s) and said the same exact thing.
I also witnessed Steve threatening to call the cops on a 15 year old boy for getting on and off the elliptical machine without wiping it down.
And even today I, my younger brother, and my friend were approached by Steve and he ranted about how us not wiping down equipment will lead to someone’s grandma dying from COVID and him getting a bad review. He went on to say that this is common gym etiquette (to wipe down equipment) and he believes that we don’t wipe down equipment because our parents never went to a gym before, which isn’t even true and is irrelevant. If anyone doesn’t have gym etiquette it seems to be Steve. Again, the reason I have a problem with this is because I’ve seen ONE person wipe down equipment in my entire time attending this gym. What made it comical was that Steve went to do some curls on the bicep machine and he didn’t wipe it down. I don’t think that committing double standards make anyone inclined to respect or care about what you say.
Oh yeah, and the prices are being raised with no major improvements to the gym.
You may have been able to pick up on my main problem with Steve and Rock. They discriminate against younger members. They treat them worse than they do older members. This is no way to run a business, period. I’d suggest looking at different gym options if you are a younger person, just to spare you of this...
Read moreI do not like leaving bad reviews however I had a frustrating experience with this gym. While the gym is very nice, hidden fees and rules became an issue. I joined through active and fit which is $29 dollars monthly, however before joining to avoid a surprise fee I attempted to contact the gym a couple of times which went straight to voicemail and I also left a message for them to call back but did not receive a call back. When I showed upon on a weekend I was told if you want to come after hours (4pm on a weekends, 0730pm weekdays) there would be an additional $20 dollar monthly fee in addition to the $29 dollars I pay to active and fit. I was told I had a "standard" membership with active and fit not "premium" which grants after hours access. However I was subsequently told had I joined through the gym directly for $38 dollars (more if not student or military) I would be granted after hours access however the classes such as yoga, HIT etc they offer would be an additional 20 dollars. I did call back today and confirmed this was in fact was the fees. I called active and fit back and reported this and they were kind enough to refund my money. I would be cautious with fine print and get all the details if you use insurance or are military...
Read moreSo I actually didn’t have any problems with the gym. I rarely went, but I paid it every month. Since I didn’t go that often, I asked for my membership to be cancelled before the next month so I wouldn’t get charged. They charge my card, and they said they have a 30 days cancellation policy. So you gotta let them know 30 DAYS BEFORE YOU WANNA CANCEL. This is 2021, not even doctors appointments have such strict cancellation policies. So even though I called and emailed them before the beginning of my new month to cancel, they still charge me for the month stating I should have called a month ago. So if you’re looking for a gym and you might need to cancel membership for whatever reason, make sure you call 30 days before your next month. They do this cause most people enlist in the middle of the months, so no matter what day you call to cancel, they’re still gonna charge your next month. They’re saying it’s because of the billing department, but I work at a medical office and billing doesn’t not take 30 days...
