The store has good prices and selection on a lot of random things you may need or want. The people making negative reviews need to consider a couple of things.
#1. It's a buyout store, they get scratch and dent items, things that are irregulars/imperfect. And they get a LOT of freight. Seriously, a ton. So yes, sometimes it's going to be a little disorganized, or "dirty". not like.. dirt on the ground or shelves, but you're not going to find everything pristine like an art gallery. That's NOT the kind of store it is.
So be realistic with your expectations. Hundreds or thousands of items come in a week and there's only 20 ish ppl that work there. So give them some slack. Especially when customers destroy the store like wild animals in a frenzy every day, multiple times a day. Putting things back in wrong places, knocking things over and leaving a mess (and not letting anyone know there's a mess) and completely wrecking the shelves constantly. Seriously, most of the mess is entitled ppl shopping there, too good to clean up after themselves, criticizing everything, but still shopping there anyway.. Makes sense right?.
#2. The prices are quite good, I'm not sure how people say they aren't. I've gone there and bought things for 10$ that any other local store is selling at that exact moment for 20$+. Food/candy items that are $10 or more at stores, they have for $3-4. That rug you looked at for $300+? they have them for $150 or less (usually) Looking for that cold/flu/allergy medicine but don't want to pay $20-40 at a pharmacy? they often have it there for $10 or less.
So again, be realistic. Especially when writing reviews. The prices are good, the employees do their best. Especially seeing how horrible many of the customers are, and with how understaffed they are for the work they have to do every day. Not to mention, when lockdowns started and everywhere was closed or had their hours reduced these last 2 years? They stayed open, every day, full time. For the customers.
And in regards for Shastas review, they don't require exact change. They haven't for months. Nor do they require credit cards. They only ask you for a card if you don't have cash.. you know, like every other store in the world. You have to be able to pay somehow ppl. That said, they aren't a bank. If you give someone a $100 bill for $2 worth of stuff yeah, they may ask you for something else. No cashier can have someone repeatedly wipe their entire register out because they just want change. That's not an Ollie's thing, that's a common courtesy at a...
Read moreHonestly I've never been to an Ollie's and had a good experience. Every store I've ever been in has been fairly dirty (unswept/undusted), completely disorganized (with items thrown about aisles either by staff or customers), has unhelpful or unknowledgeable staff, and broken/damaged items that can be frequently found on shelves throughout the stores still for sale and not marked down. Its basically just Odd Lots or Big Lots in these respects. The worst offense I witnessed was at an Ollie's in Springfield, OH. Upon entering the store I was greated with a somewhat faint, but still obvious, smell of rotting meat which only grew stronger as I got further inside and became almost unbearable near the middle of the store. In the middle of a food aisle there was sitting a bag of beef jerky which had been very obviously punctured on the front and was not hidden in any way. The meat was green and covered in mold. An associate working in the aisle just kept passing by it like it was totally normal. Mind you, beef jerky is dehydrated and thus takes a while to become totally covered in mold like this so that bag had to have been sitting there visibly open on the shelf for no less than a week or 2 with associates AND CUSTOMERS just walking by. When asked about it the associate didn't seem to have any idea that what they were looking at was an open moldy bag of food, didn't even acknowledge the problem and just walked away. I left the bag there as I wasn't about to get that smell on me and I approached a manager to inform them of the situation. I was told they were wondering what that smell had been for a week (meaning this was already an issue prior to the obvious smell) and that they would remove the bag of jerky then thanked me for bringing it to their attention. A week and a half later while running errands for my grandmother, that that bag of jerky was STILL in the shelf. I understand that not every associate at Ollie's is incompetent or has a degree in lazy but wow, that was a store effort of just ignoring the issue. Rotted jerky sitting on a shelf for up to 3 weeks is unacceptable by any standard. My consistent disappointing experiences at this chain have driven me to the point where I will NEVER shop there for myself. If my job or a friend needs something cheap, right now, and they're paying, ok maybe I'll step foot inside another Ollie's but I'd still rather go to literally any...
Read moreWas a great experience, great prices... The only thing that bothered me was that there was a gentleman in the store throwing merchandise. And I don't mean just tossing it lightly. I mean full blown chucking it. HARD. The person I was with said OMG he keeps doing that and he's going to get in trouble! It was super loud and super noticeable. Also, rude and disrespectful to the store, right? I don't know how y'all were raised, but I was raised to not destroy my own things, let alone someone else's. I was also raised not to act a certain type of way in public- you know, the way that says I've got a huge chip on my shoulder and I'm BIG MAD about it AND I want everyone to know it. Oh- but I don't want to do anything to change it, so I'm going to act like a baby and throw things..... I may have added the last part. Forgive me Lord 🙏. So we're heading to leave and go pay, and the guy takes a cart and starts a small jog up only to ram the cart into other carts into the wall. Super loud. Super aggressive. I'm like what the- and then it gets better! An employee comes up to the guy and asks him what he wanted him to do next with the XYZ before he left for the day and did he want him to come in early tomorrow... I was speechless. America, is this what we're doing now? Have we became so entitled or lazy or disrespectful to ourselves and our families that we can behave like this to any business willing to pay us so we can support ourselves? IDK. If im wrong, then I don't want to...
