Honestly it's getting ridiculous. My kid took skate lessons there. The last half hour is meant to be open skate for them to practice what they've learned. But it's actually just public skate. So now you're throwing 5-9 year old kids on the rink with high schoolers or adults who can't skate at all and blasting music. Lessons have also started late because a hockey game went overtime. On top of that, at least twice now the public/open skate ALSO overlaps with a birthday party AND private lessons. So a third of the rink is closed off for party space and another chunk in the middle with an instructor herding kids (who also PAID FOR LESSONS) and the general public away from someone practicing spins in between cones. AND you never know if you can rent a "skate walker" for toddlers. I asked to rent one 15 min before public skate started. I was told to come back when it actually began. I rented my preschooler skates and paid for public skate, got ready, and came back to rent.. and was told there was a birthday party "no one knew about" so I could no longer rent a skate walker. It was his FIRST time on the ice. One star because the ice is well maintained. Go to Howell or Red bank if you want what your money should be paying for and not some hypothetical ice space that doesn't...
Read moreWe visited the Middletown Ice Arena on Sunday, March 3, 2019 during the public skating session 1-2-30pm. We payed for the admission and rental, paid cash, they did not give us any receipt except handwritten admission tickets. After entering the rink, we observed that 1/3 of the rink was closed for private lessons. The rest of the rink was packed with not less than 100 people skating. The private lessons area had 1 skater practicing, then 2 more skaters joined with another instructor. The area was closed the whole time during the public skating session. When we complained that it is not safe to have so many people skating on 2/3 of the rink, the skating instructors told us to go to some other rink and skate there, and that the parents of these kids paid money for the lessons. The front desk person told us that the manager is not available and gave us a phone number to call, which goes to voicemail, which is full and does not accept any messages. It is a public hazard to have so many people skating on just a portion of the rink, especially with teens going high speed and small kids. The lessons should be scheduled at another time. It is just a matter of time before somebody...
Read moreThis place is extremely messed up. On multiple accounts, me and my friends have been harassed here. In fact, it's happened every single time I've gone. The kids here have slurred at us, harassed us, and even got physical at times (tripping, throwing things). We don't do anything to deserve this, we don't bother anyone. We're just trying to skate. There have even been cases where they were doing these things to a 9 year old!
What's even worse is the fact that this rink doesn't do anything about it. You try and report what has happened and all you are hit with is a "well then why did you come here?" Please don't support a business that lets people be...
