Food Lion — Local services in Middletown

More times than not they have what I need unless it's like a Sunday evening. Only four self-checkouts 2 for card's only 2 for cash only. Their staff is very sweet and kind and helpful. I've had a couple problems with the insta cart/ online shopping pick up order where my groceries were thrown into my trunk so much so I had to take a multiple photos of the blatant disrespect from the workers who brought the groceries out thrown and when I say throne I mean sodas have exploded bakery items for smashed and this isn't that big of a deal but they're usually is at least one order on our food store list that is not available. I don't find that as disgusting as exploding sodas that I have to clean out of my trunk because the groceries were just thrown in there barbarically. It's not every single time and only happened three times but 2 times it was the same person. I will all in all say that food Lion is my go-to grocery store they are the friendliest they helped the most the only problem I have like I said is with the throwing of the groceries from the insta cart online...

Small but best prices for fresh cut deli in Middletown. This store is small but can easily covers your basic needs. If you're looking for lots of choices you might do better at Walmart, Giant, or Acme in Middletown.

Update 07/31/25: Times have changed and caught up somewhat. The gap has closed somewhat but this is still a viable option. Unfortunately I recently had a bad experience with a frozen dinner which had just a touch of bleach to the aroma. Ugh. For now I'll blame that on Boston Market rather than Food Lion. I emphasize for now. Middletown is fortunate to have both Aldi and Lidl to keep the other players more "honest" than they might otherwise be. Just look at the other side of the tracks. Want some basics? They're going to cost more on the east side of town. Food Lion is closer to Aldi, Lidl, Target, and Walmart and their prices reflect that. Usually I would leave 5 stars, I love Food Lion , their prices are great and their customer service is always awesome, except for today. I went through the express checkout, I had about 20 items in my cart, but my friend was with me and we were ringing up our items up separately, so we both were under the 12 items. The cashier Gussie, questioned us about how many items we had, which I TOTALLY understand she was just doing her job. After I told her we were doing 2 separate transactions, she still had an attitude, she slammed her pen down, huffed and rolled her eyes. I asked if there was a problem and she stated again she was just express lane, AGAIN I replied my friend and I were ringing up separate, she still huffed and puffed and rolled her EYES again! It was totally uncalled for, I have been a loyal Food Lion customer for 20 plus years and shop their several times a week, but this really turned me off I have never been treated like this before, it makes me not want...
