Not as good as it used to be. Will be a bit before we come back because we spent a lot considering what we got. Prices went up. Overall the food was good, albeit not as "wow" as before. It was amazing a year+ ago. We couldn't stop talking about this place.
This last time we went, we ended up getting our order taken after another table that had sat down a few minutes after us. This is because our waiter was nowhere to be found most of the time. We asked the other server if she could get him. She goes to get him, but she comes back and offers to take our order instead. I was so confused because it wasn't busy at all! Ive been a server for many years and I've never seen that. Taking the order is crucial. I should have tipped her too now that I think about it. :/
I honestly think the friendly lady who had the table next to us could have handled the whole floor. Maybe he could just serve the bar until he gets better, but I wish we had her considering it was a special birthday dinner. She was the only one who had good vibes and friendly energy. Everyone else had a very sullen and tired feel to them.
He hardly checked on us and he forgot our salads. Also I don't remember them bringing out the plates so far apart before if apart at all. My daughter (7) got her dinner last out of everyone.
It would be a good idea to re-train that waiter in particular. He also needs to be more personable and talk to people more. His words were very minimal. I want him to know he doesn't have to be shy, we want him to be himself and laugh and talk with us customers! It's O-K! I promise, just for one day let loose and be yourself. Make conversation with people like your co-worker does. I guarantee you'll get better tips and you'll be more comfortable.
Read moreWent to Toba on a Saturday night. Regular Saturday/family restaurant vibe. There wasn't really anything standout about this restaurant. The service was good-ish, but they were busy. Our table ordered a variety. We ordered drinks and they were pretty good, including sake. The egg rolls were good. California rolls were okay. The tempura sweet potato roll was okay. The spring rolls were okay. The shrimp tempura roll had good flavor but I was livid when I put the last piece in my mouth and bit down on the full tail, still on, fried, and wrapped and I was chewing it. Everyone got different versions of their Japanese fried rice. The vegetarian one, with spice, was the most unique. They added tons if veggies that the others didn't have, but it was just okay. It wasn't finish and didn't want to take it home. The one with no chicken, with spice they said it was good, more spicy than usual. The one with no seafood was more spicy than usual also and they enjoyed it. Mine was no meat, shrimp only, no spice. It looked different than the others, an entirely different color. It had a good amount of shrimp, all with tails on. That was more than annoying. All were generous portions. Pretty sure the too salty soy sauce was kikoman, so byo if you don't like that. Overall, it's an average place, but for 4 ppl with a 20% tip, expect to spend $200 for a few times per person, a little less with no alcohol. Would order the JFR again, veggie one because the mushrooms...
Read moreFirst let me start by saying my first experience was much better at this establishment .The food and drinks were on point. We started off with a female Waitress. I ordered a $12 long Island Tea, appetizers, Firecrackers sushi, Philly rolls which were delicious. The Long Island Tea taste like juice.. I was very disappointed so I told Waitress..she said sorry and moved on..for some reason another waiter waited on our table so I told him about how disappointed I was inregards to drink...and said there was hardly any liquor in beverage he once again said sorry... since it was falling on deaths ears I thought by telling the manager it would bring about some action. Nope, he returned to table and said sorry once again... I was going to order more drinks because I was celebrating my 50th but I refuse to spend more money when my complaint was being ignored. The manager didn't try to make it right. Infact she didn't talk to me directly, she communicated through her workers. Oh and there were only five people in restaurant. I would have given more stars if manager cared about the customer being satisfied and happy. Saying sorry is nice but it doesn't fix everything.... The objective should be to have happy paying customers. She didn't even try...This dinning experience would have been perfect if manager cared about the customer...
