So I have shopped here often. Since this whole new management change, all of the friendly faces I once knew are gone. I appreciate all of the changes that have been made, and updates. But I guess all of that came with a cost. When I walked in today I was hit with the stitch of rotten food. I decided to continue looking for what I came for. They have raised the price yet again for this nearly expired food. Don't get me wrong, they have great prices for some things. However for a box of Bar S corn dogs I saw at 10.00. Seriously? I can go to Winco and buy them with a shelf life of more than a week of expiration for less than 10.00. 1.10 for expired tonic water. This is the last place to sell this old food, why charge customers like it's a regular super market. People who don't have a lot of money need these stores. The owner of this place owns several stores, non of the prices are the same. Some places are cheaper. I assume since this is in Happy Valley they charge more. What happened to boxes of water, or other drinks. 8.00- 12.00 for a small bag of dog food. 2.50 for a dented can of dog food. That is expired. There are deals, but the shelf life is limited to a few days. Just remember that when you shop there. The triscuts expired last November. The shelf life from packaging is 7 months. Not saying they taste bad, I am saying they have had them this long, and are still raising the prices. Soda pop prices are the same as Fred Meyer. I just needed to vent that people who don't have much shop here, and we still have to pay supermarket prices for food nobody wanted...
Read moreUsed to LOVE this place, but greed of newest owner is spoiling it AND the food it's trying to sell. Adding to what many reviewers have already said, many "expired" items are same price or sale price of major grocery stores. I have no problem eating "expired" food - dates are a suggestion, not a rule. But it should be MUCH cheaper than fresh, AND still edible.
VERY expired food needs to be priced to move or it'll end up in the landfill. (Grocery Outlet does a GREAT job at this.) 79 cents for a brown, squishy avocado is pointless. Should have priced them 4/$1 when they were still edible! Organic nut butters are a good example: $3 for a small jar of organic peanut butter that's over a year out of date is just wrong. It's likely already off because it doesn't have the stabilizers more processed nut butters have.
Fresh produce is still plentiful, but again, if it's grocery-store quality it's often same price or more than grocery stores: $2/lb for conventional broccoli, $1 for a fresh avocado, 69 cents for a lime...
According to the multi-store owner's website, "our mission is to provide our customers with good quality groceries at affordable prices." It's not doing either consistently anymore, ripping off customers and contributing to food waste. Hard to believe the last owner didn't turn more profit. S/he sure made the place a MUCH nicer shopping experience... felt like digging for treasure with cheap gourmet items in every corner and cart! Staff were A LOT...
Read moreIf you're strapped for cash or trying to stretch your EBT dollar a lot farther, this hidden gem is what your life has been missing. If this location is farther away than you'd like, two other locations are available in Vancouver and toward right before Gresham on 146th and Stark. The amount of food you can buy for $10-30 is crazy! You would easily spend 5x if not more at any other grocery store. There are definitely expired or soon to expire products, but that's why their so heavily marked down. If you're the ritzy type and not down with bending the rules on expiration dates, I respect that completely. But this grocery is potentially not up to par with your standard of expectations. If you want to save, look no further! The staff is amazing to boot! Always so nice and helpful if you're looking for a particular product. What you see is often what you get, but their constantly receiving new shipments...
