Always high prices, often low quality. This old timey grocery store— is not that old, having opened in 2014, I believe, it just seems out of date. If you want old look no further than their produce and dairy. More than once I have purchased rotten onions. Today I almost purchased a squishy beet. The creamer I initially grabbed had an expiration date in 2 days… so I looked for another which atleast gave me an additional week of freshness. I have noticed shelf items purchased often are out of date- like soup bouillon cubes— not as big a deal but they should refresh their shelves. Don’t let the high prices trick you into thinking you’ll get great quality or service….They do have some odd treats- that are a little hard to find like phyllo dough… but they also have n odd selection of who would still eat this grub from the 80s— like Bill Knapps donuts. The staff are difficult to find and often slightly apathetic tweens… Like you stand there wondering if you can check out somewhere and eventually one will pop out and tell you they are open. The layout is just bizarre. I am all for creative organization or marketing but the set up is not only ugly- it makes no sense…. I stop in because it’s the closest grocery store to home but it’s always a bit of...
Read moreWhen this store was announced several years ago, there was much anticipation in the neighborhood, since there are very few small markets to do convenience shopping in the area.
This anticipation was followed by disappointment from locals.
The Deli, in particular is a total horrorshow. The first time I visited the store anticipating a fine contemporary Deli, the "chef" was dumping a CAN of green beans into a deli pan next to the canned carrots, tater tots, and other miserable-looking selections. CANNED beans!?! Are you $*ing me!?!
Other reviews compare this store to Lund's or Byerly's. NOT!
The owners of this store are bucking the 20-year trend towards more upscale Deli's, and well-designed shopping environs. This is a budget operation that tries to be more than it is: a 1980's-style basic convenience grocery store with limited selection and high prices.
Avoid this store if you have expectations of a fine, contemporary Market.
Convenient Location for locals. Provides basic foods in the dry/canned/snack depts.
Horrible Deli. Questionable fresh foods & vegetables. Higher prices (to...
Read moreI love this market! I first went there a few weeks ago and have been back 3-4 times since. It combines the best qualities of Seward Coop and an upscale grocery store like Kowalski's. There are plenty of bulk items (even spices; although not quite as extensive a selection as the coop), there is a great deli section and meat counter, and way more organic vegetables to choose from than a Kowalski's. I agree with the reviewer that what they stock is well-chosen, even down to the BPA-free bottles for water. We went there for our Thanksgiving shopping and were able to get everything we needed, instead of having to go to the coop for things like organic veggies and then a conventional grocery store for things like Ritz crackers. Plus, unlike the coop, it was not crowded and there was plenty of parking. I suppose this will change as the store gets more popular. Last but not least, I have also found the staff to be very helpful and friendly on every visit. This is a great addition...
