I typically don’t leave reviews often, but my experience was really poor, and actually slightly uncomfortable…my brother and I stopped in to grab a quick bite. Walking in was awkward because it was dead quiet and the energy felt tense. We were seated by a window with a fly trap in the corner which was extremely off putting due to the amount of dead flies inside. Our waiter had a dead stare, and looked like he must’ve been having a really tough day. Several minutes pass and we place our order. I got the chicken wild rice soup and chicken tenders. My brother got the Mac and Cheese. While waiting for our food, we were attacked by several large flies. Our food came and after a few bites we both expressed to each other how bad the food was. It was extremely average and bland. I ordered a lemonade and halfway through saw there was a white chunk of god knows what floating around. The whole experience was overall off putting. We received our check and the amounts charged were off from what the menu stated. I was charged $4 for a lousy fountain drink, which is bold. I let our server know the prices were off and he checked the menu to compare. He then let us know there was in fact and error then proceeded to say in a sarcastic tone “Yep. The prices were off. Gotta love our management. Assholes”. Overall very uncomfortable place with horrible overpriced...
Read moreMy husband and I went here for the first time the other day to try some place new. He loves diner food and old school atmospheres so I wanted to surprise him. I saw that the food had amazing reviews and was better compared to Mickey's Diner. We started off with the Beef Gravy Fries and they were PHENOMENAL!! We laughed and giggled the whole time about how our tastebuds were on a journey that day lol.. For our main entrées we chose the Hash stuffed Hash with amazingly tender corned beef inside.... makes you drool!!! The Fish and Chips, their classic house French Toast, and their signature Gary Cooper donut which is a large glazed donut topped with 2 large slices of very very crispy fried chicken and drizzled with some amazing white sauce/gravy stuff that is vegan. We had such an amazing experience with EVERY dish and were not disappointed at all. Our server, Nicole, was AMAZING! She was so attentive and helpful because my husband doesn't eat pork. She gave many recommendations because she was pork-free as well and also gave him substitute options. We love servers who know their thing about the menu items. At the end of our meal she had such a blast with us that she made us her own signature coffee/root beer shot and gave me a freshly pressed shot of grapefruit juice. She was AWESOME!!! This will definitely be our...
Read moreI have been wanting to visit Hi-Lo Diner for a long time, after hearing positive remarks from friends and reading reviews.
I was finally able to make a trip to the dinner tonight with several friends, and was not disappointed.
The restaurant itself is quite memorable. It is modeled after a classic vintage diner, complete with neon and a seated bar. The space is small but surprisingly spacious inside, with plenty of seating for what seemed like the perfect churn of visitors, never a line to be seen but also few empty booths.
The menu is both comfortable and unique, with many staples mixed in to an assortment of creative options (such as the Hi-Top, a donut with savory toppings 🤔).
We ordered the spicy cheese curds to share, a burger, and the Lox and Dam Benedict. Our server was polite, attentive, and quick with service.
The dishes themselves were fantastic. The burger was cooked as ordered and quite juicy, the cheese curds were fried to perfection and carried a slight kick in their aftertaste, and the Benedict was a perfect combination of capers, sauce, salmon, and onions.
Overall, this is definitely a worthy visit for a fun meal. I would recommend a night visit for the ambiance and lighting, but it would also be fun in the...
