The best way to appreciate this bridge is to get into a canoe (or kayak) on the Mississippi River and paddle around the two stone bridge piers. The stone mason work on these piers is impeccable, and from a long lost time in the history of bridge building in this country. Opened in 1880, rebuilt in 1902. The stone mason work on these piers is 150 years old as of the writing of this comment and still maintaining local commercial rail traffic over the river. I suggest that anyone interested in this bridge ignore the iron and wood structures along the span and focus on the stone piers. They are an absolute...

What the hell do you say about a railroad bridge? I'm not a train so perhaps my opinion isn't valid. Do railroad folks have anything to say about the railroad infrastructure they use? Like "oh boy I just love this bridge it totally doesn't dump me in the river...
