California Care saved my life and gave me my family back! There were a lot of conversations with the admissions team between myself, my mom, and my husband to make us all comfortable enough for me to hop on a plane from Wisconsin and fly across the country to a place I've never been and to be treated by people I've never met. There were 2 amazing fellas that would not give up on me. They found solutions to all of the problems I threw at them and consistently checked in on me until my departure date. The absolute sweetest gal picked me up from the airport and made me feel comfortable from the moment I met her. It was late in California and even later where I had flown in from but the 2 gals that did my intake were amazing and got me settled in quickly so I could start my detox process. I was highly impressed with how clean and livable the house was from the moment I walked in. There were multiple places to have our group sessions inside and out, comfy beds to lay my head on, an overly stocked kitchen with snacks and healthy meal options galore, clean bathrooms, a fitness area, and so much more! The first few days are a bit foggy but I do remember that I felt safe, cared for, and ready for what lie ahead. Over the next month amazing things happened 1 after another. I began to truly wake up and experience life in a new mindset. I participated in multiple enlightening daily groups led by staff at the house, different forms of meditation and mindful activities led by multiple amazing people that came in weekly to spend time with us, workout sessions with the physical trainer that came 3 times weekly to work with us and help us understand our bodies and any physical issues we may have, daily meetings (AA, NA, HA, CA, CMA) outside the house, and the weekly outing of our choosing (within reason) to stretch our legs and minds in the new sober state of mind. The nursing staff was outstanding! Any questions or concerns I had were immediately dealt with and explained to me in a way I could understand. The amount of knowledge I gained about my health was mindblowing! They brought me to a doctor for bloodwork to find out about my health, which gave me knowledge about a few issues I was having and continued to work with the doctor to form a plan to deal with these issues. My hormone levels were checked and also the compatibility of different medications with my DNA were tested. Those results were surprising and extremely helpful in my understanding about what was going on in my body. The food was fantastic! The staff makes sure we are well fed and also included us in cooking meals with providing cooking groups for us to learn/do things in the new sober mindset. My previous passions; cooking, singing, dancing, writing poetry, telling jokes, and smiling all came flooding back during my time at California Care. They showed me that people will still love me and want me around when im not using. I could go on and on about how I was truly blessed to end up at California Care, but I feel like I've said enough. PLEASE if you have the opportunity to have California Care as your home during your recovery DO NOT PASS IT UP! This is the opportunity of a lifetime and I am completely confident that they can help you get back to the amazing person you are when you are not using just like they did for me! Don't worry about leaving either. The people that once were staff become friends and allies that you can reach out to at anytime. They truly care about the people they invest their time in and even after you are out of the house they check on you and want to hear about your new life. I know how busy they are in the daily grind but I also know that if I text them I will hear back fr9m them. They continue to check in with me and appreciate hearing about how my day is going. THANK YOU CALIFORNIA CARE! You made magic happen for me! I love you all and will never forget my recovery home! See you all for my 1...
Read moreI don’t even know if I could give this program justice with the following review, but here is my honest attempt. This program has far superseded any expectation I had of going to treatment in California. (To be transparent I work in the field and have sought treatment out of state so not to be a conflict of interest) With that being said, the team that encompasses the detox res portion of California Care checks out in all areas.
Let’s get the surface stuff out of the way, this program is a 6 patient program in a beautiful/properly functioning home (not just outsides, insides too) in a community with a park walking distance to include a pickleball and basketball court. I’m talking massage chairs, in home gym, practically a private chef (Nurse Gen) and weekly outings (bowling, pickle ball, self care etc) But to be honest that’s not the really important stuff.
Behind closed doors is a collaborative program touching all aspects of care. Daily meditation, breath work, yoga, sound bathing, personal trainer and the traditional CBT/DBT are offered weekly. The interdisciplinary staff are professional, well trained and consistent. Meaning, the schedule is set in stone, no sick calls no “I’m sorry group was canceled” etc. This program is solid.
The outside sources of care are great but the in house professionals are really what set this treatment apart. Holly (house manager) gets to know you on a level that is above and beyond, She is the heart of the program, she takes her time each client and has helped me, through her own experience, to have faith in my path ahead. Johnny (case manager) has an ability to pick out pieces of what’s shared in group to create treatment plans that are personalized for each patient. He provides integrated activities/ chose specific meetings/ took us on outings that broadened our insights to our disease process. His ability to be all inclusive with 6 different patients (different addictions/religions/beliefs etc) took time and care. Johnny is a main staple if you ask me! Rupa (beyond qualified therapist) tore down the akward “it takes months to build report with a patient” phase and she and I connected effortlessly. She has a way not only with me, but my partner as well! He and I are actively healing through our couples sessions together. I look forward to the EMDR work we will be doing together as she will be following me to the next phase of treatment. Other noteworthy staff; obviously the dynamic duo Chloe and Karly! Chloe’s infectious hope and awesome example of sobriety is a standard that she sets as an MHT. Her experience makes her an asset to every shift. Karli (RN) is so knowledgeable and is able to answer any and all questions r/t meds She is also super empathetic and that’s important when detoxing.
Though a professional hierarchy exists, any concern that was raised (for me personally medication issues, doctor appointments, discharge planning, family issues) was handled accross the board. Meaning if I raised a concern to one staff, the chain of communication between managerial, case management, nursing and BHT always took place. No misinformation, or “so and so didn’t tell so and so” . The program worked seamlessly. For me, strong communication and integrity amongst staff is HUGE, and sets this treatment program aside.
I’m so grateful that I have been able to participate in California Care Detox residential program. I hope you and your family find the...
Read moreI was dropped off at California Care Recovery by my parents at an extreme low point in my life and I was completely broken. I didn't know what to do with all the problems in my life. I struggle with chronic illness, alcoholism, depression, anxiety, and other issues. Michael and Myles took me in and were extremely accommodating to my needs. I needed to stay on a very strict medical diet and the staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to help me with that. Michael was my case manager and was extremely understanding of my situation. He took the time to understand all of my needs and concerns. The rest of the staff were so nice and always lent an ear to listen to me when I needed it.The emotional support dogs were the best part (Cooper, Daisy, and others). Rupa, the therapist, is probably the best therapist I've ever had. The house is clean and well-maintained. California Care provided a safe and healing environment for me to work through my issues and I cannot stress enough how important their help was to me at this point in my life.
UPDATE 10/4/2022
I will be 7 months sober since my intake at California Care on 3/8/23. Even 5 months after being discharged, Holly still checks in every once in awhile even though she has no professional obligation to do so, it's just who she is as a person. I truly believe the staff here are one of a kind, and I wouldn't have achieved this without them nurturing me through the first step. Holly has started a CC alumni meeting that continues to help me stay sober and meet new people going through their...
