Carroll / Ochs Jewelers — Local services in Monroe

I’ve been to this jeweler a few times, and noticed the level of service varies greatly based on whether I’m coming from work dressed up, or having a more casual day where I’m in jeans or a t-shirt. I most recently came in to get my wedding ring and engagement band resized - when I walked in with my children someone rushed right over, eyeing the kids as if they were a problem (not sure why - they’re well behaved and were not being loud, moving around, or touching anything), asked if the rings were bought there and immediately started criticizing the ring when I said no. They then told me any work on my ring would be a lot of work and quite expensive, as they’d have to separate and re-solder the rings - it would be at least $300. She then handed the ring back to me, with a look that indicated she did not expect I’d want to do this, nor did she ask if I wanted her to set that up, etc. Overall, I just felt very unwelcome, even though I’ve made purchases here in the past (which were okay but not great experiences).

I decided to try Milkins instead - what a difference! They immediately said they would get this all set for me, complimented my ring, quoted me $100 as they could do the work without separating the rings, made friendly conversation with me and my kids, and ultimately did a great job. The owner ended up being the one to help us, and he was so nice and helpful! This was a few months ago and my rings look great - and for at least $200 less than Carroll Ochs would...

I've been going to Carroll/Ochs for over 9 years now and the experience there is always the same, and friendly atmosphere where you are treated like Family. I was recommended to them by my boss where I was having issues with another jewelry company in replacing a ring they had damaged and not getting it in a timely mapper. I walked into Carroll seeing if they could remake that ring and provided I could return the other ring, what they would do for me. Bernie and Dawn didn't disappoint. They took my ring concept, sent it out to their jewelers to make, and came back with a better ring. They also bumped up in the clarity, carat size, and even beat the cost of the other company. Went in with my wife to find a nice watch for our daughter. She saw one she really liked even for herself and asked the price. Was more than she wanted to spend on our daughter but she kept saying how much she liked it. Long story short. W found a great watch for our daughter and while we where checking out I saw the wonderful lady who had been helping us and caught her eye and quietly said “ could you put that other watch we were looking at aside so I can come back and get it for my wife?” She nodded yes.
