Kiku Fusion Sushi & Hibachi — Restaurant in Monroe

We just happened to stop by to try this place out. Not a fan of it. The food was edible, but didn't sit well in my gut. I ended bringing most of the chicken hibachi home for my teenage son, as he will eat anything! The tempura batter was flavorless, pasty. There was no seasoning at all on it prior to being battered. The chicken hibachi was not flavorful. The crab Rangoon was ok, not the best I've had. I am seeking to give nisr restaurants a try before making my mind up, but this one is one I will not go back to. The service was slow. Our entrees came out before our appetizers. The soup they gave me tasted like mushroom water which gave me a nasty taste left in my mouth. After trying it, I pushed the bowl away. Normally Japanese/Asian cooking is flavorful, but in this instance I was not impressed. My husband has ordered a sushi plate and another roll. We had to wait to ask the server where the roll was. When they finally came over, I was done eating what little I could eat and we were ready to leave. We inquired about the roll he had ordered and she looked at us kind of blankly. It wasn't until we had asked 3 times what the roll was that she finally went to check. They had forgotten it. We were about to just leave and she convinced us it was still being made. She went back into the kitchen and brought it out. By this point I was so ready to leave, we asked them for it to go. Ordered online. It was supposed to be ready in 40 minutes. I showed up a little after 40 minutes. I was blatantly ignored for 5 minutes and then waited another 20 minutes for the food (65 minutes total). They were not busy. They had people seated at 3 tables (as many staff as customers) and two other carry-outs in the ~half hour I spent waiting. One carryout person left without their food, not sure if they ever came back for it. It appears the only thing they bothered making at the time of my order was the dumplings as they were cold and soggy. It became clear that they didn't start making the rest of the order until I came to pick it up. Once they finally finished making the food, instead of apologizing or at least handing the food to me, they choose to yell my name loudly while avoiding eye contact and throwing my bag in the counter and quickly walking off. I even made the mistake of tipping online ahead of time. I spent $80 dollars between two people and neither of us were fully satisfied. The sushi was good, but the absolute disrespect is entirely unacceptable. I gave none of the employees any grief as this was not an individual failure, however not a single employee displayed an ounce professionalism. I'll may try again in a year, but who knows. I've only been here once, but really liked it. I'm excited to go back again and try other dishes on their vast menu. Believe it or not (and I know you will), this building is a repurposed Pizza Hut! But the pizza vibe is gone and the Japanese sushi vibe is very much present. They have a nice little sushi bar and even a couple of curtained off booths to give it the Asian feel. I started my meal with a delicious avocado based salad. Not like the standard "salad" you'd think of because it had noodles and some kind of flakes (fish? remember this is Japanese cuisine) with a creamy dressing, but a great starter. Next I shared the yellow tail sashimi appetizer. Thin slices of tasty yellowtail perfectly dressed and with a slice of jalapeno and a drop of sriracha. This was my favorite dish of the night and simply delicious. Next we shared a couple of rolls, which I can't remember what they were (something tempura with eel sauce), but they were super yummy. Really, I think you could put on a blind fold and point at anything and it would be very good. Lots of parking, prompt service. I can't wait...
