Looking for an Auctioneer to sell your valuables ?
SELLER BEWARE!!!
Look somewhere else- to say that john Moran Auctioneers- are the MOST Unprofessional and rude people I ever dealt with - would be a HUGE understatement.
I sent pictures of some of the jewlery i was looking to sell (7 pieces all together) - I was IMMEDIATELY contacted by the director of Jewlerry Dept. for John Moran-she immediately ask me to mail in my jewlery which i immediately did - rushing to met some cheap car salesmen like dead line- i first noticed that trying to communicate with this person was a real challenge - her emails were short, lacking respect and lacking explanation on how the process of selling thru an Auctioneer works-her behavior at the end once i did not agreed to a very low Reserve on 2 of my pieces of jewlery - the person i was dealing with displayed psychotic behavior-once she realized she had failed to convinced me to agreed the very low Reserve she keep pushing for - the next thing i know she is sending me and email writing on the subject line “ Helloooo “ I am already returning everything – What is your address?”- this email came in minutes after i told her i just could not sell the 2 of my pieces as cheap as she keep pushing for.
While i do understand that it is in the BEST INTEREST of the Auctioneer to set low Reserve to guarantee the item will sell therefore insuring themselves their profits no matter what ( they charge sellers a seller’s fee and buyers a fee they call “ buyer’s premium “ on average an Auctioneer will make anywhere from 35 to 45% of the hammered price (they make money from both sides) sometimes they also pray on the need or desperation of the seller by trying to set very low Reserves but in my case i was not desperate so I absolutely refused to sell so cheap and thats when CRAZY LET LOOSE.
I wish i could post her emails - you would all drop your jaws seeing how rude and crazy this lady is -ABSOLUTELY CLASSLESS!
Looking at John Moran web site you will get the false impression that you will be treated with respect and by professionals as they claimed they are on their web site but i can tell you by my own experience as seller you will surley be as dissapointed as I am.
The good reviews you read on their web site or on Google are from buyers -buying from an Auctioneer has no science-the get your payment, the box and ship the goods and thats about it- selling thru an Auctioneer is ALL a very diffrent ball game- you need interaction and good communication with the staff and that’s where you will find the difference between good and horrible classless service like the one i received from John Moran’s director of...
Read moreIn the past I have purchased a few items for a few thousand dollars from John Moran without a problem. But in my most recent purchase, however, I received a glass item that was broken. The online description in the auction catalog listed the condition of the item as good. Prior to bidding I also asked for the condition by email and the response was also that the item was in good condition. The damage was obvious when I received the item, and I immediately emailed Moran about it. There was no response after 8 days, so I resent my email. There was no response to my second email either. This item only cost a few hundred dollars, so relative to some of the other reviews of Moran I was lucky to have learned my lesson for a relatively small amount. Non-response is apparently Moran’s s.o.p. I will never do business with Moran again and would advise anyone else to do the same. I’ve purchased items from more than 100 other auction houses, and in the few instances where there was a problem, the respective auction house worked to address the issue to my satisfaction, so Moran is an outlier in its complete non-response to a request for assistance. Buyer beware! There are lots of other, safer auction...
Read moreTrust. I have dealt with Moran Auctioneers for over twenty years, as both a buyer and seller, but until I sold a family heirloom gem, always as a buyer. Because of my straightforward experience buying California oil paintings from Moran, knowing their roots in Southern California (it's home) and their knowledge of the market, I trusted them with reselling my gem. I had in hand, appraisals from two reputable jewelers, based only on their experience, but unverified by an unbiased third-party source. Unlike those jewelers, Moran Auctioneers obtained a GIA Grading Report of the piece, unbiased with just the facts, to see exactly what we had. Once we had the GIA report in hand, an educated estimate could be made. The selling process was safe, comfortable and they took care of all the details. I was extremely happy with the entire process. They treated me like family, with respect as a client, and settled up in a timely fashion. That's as...
