Today I had my first of four sessions in the Beginning Wheel Throwing class. This, despite having taken two sessions of beginning wheel throwing at Creative Arts Studio in Sierra Madre last year. I learned so little at Creative Arts that I decided to start over with the basics and Makers & Clay. In two hours, I learned more from Marcus than I learned in two ten week sessions at Creative Arts. This is not an exaggeration.
Marcus is an excellent instructor. He is methodical and explains technique step by step. He explains hand and arm positioning, which I realized today is what was missing at Creative Arts and the reason. I never was able to throw a pot. Not once. I threw small plates because my pots opened up when they shouldn’t have. Today, in one 2-hour session I centers my clay for the first time without major assistance because Marcus walks around and lets you know what you are doing correctly or what you need to correct. Actual instruction. The studio is really well organized, with drying shelf space set aside for each student. The space is clean and new and bright. The people are delightful, instructors patient and positive. I cannot say enough about my first day. A truly excellent experience. Do not hesitate to sign up for a class. Or for a membership if you are more experienced and want studio time. This...
Read moreMy husband and I had the pleasure of joining the pottery classes in January, even though we had no prior experience in pottery. The studio itself is newly established and impressively spacious, providing a well-maintained environment for creativity to flourish. One of the highlights for me is the open studio hours, which offer the perfect opportunity to practice and work on my projects. It has become a cherished routine for me to visit the studio after work, contributing greatly to enhancing my work-life balance.
I’d like to express my gratitude to Kristen, my first teacher, who played a pivotal role in my pottery journey. Her patience and extensive knowledge have been instrumental to my growth.
I also want to give a special shoutout to Marcus and Kyle for their exceptional work in creating and maintaining the studio, providing tips and answering all my questions.
Overall, I highly recommend this pottery studio to anyone seeking to learn pottery or explore their creative side. The welcoming and inspiring environment has truly nurtured my growth as an artist, and I believe it can do the...
