The Loft — Local services in Montclair

The place is beautiful but the overall experience was horrible. First off there is no staff, there is one person Te’Niijah and she has horrible communication. She rarely responds to you emails once your deposit is placed which is very unprofessional, she takes 0 accountability. She kept getting in the way of the decor process wanting it the decorated the way “she likes it” and it’s not her party nor did she rent the space out to me for free to try and make these decisions over my decor team.she wanted to monitor the party from the time the decor was put up until the end of the party. There was no privacy. My party began at 7 pm and she told the people who set up the bull that it started at 8 and she knew it didn’t which caused a delay w. the start of my party. Although she is a black women I feel when it comes to black people, especially young adult black people she is much more strict which made everyone very uncomfortable. The place is an overpriced money put and not at all worth it. We paid almost $4,000 for the place for it not to come w. anything. She was upset when I asked her to not attend my party, after all you were not a guest and out of that anger she purposely did not turn on the air conditioner and says to my mom 10 minuses before the party was over “Oh y’all are hot, you want to turn on the air?” Like seriously, come on. So after the party my mom, family, friends and I cleaned up she and her partner some guy did absolutely nothing and I paid for an event coordinator who did not coordinate or help w. anything. At the end of my party Te’Niijah called 8 police officers to escort us out and told me that I was not getting my deposit back! The entire process she has been a nightmare and I abused by all of her insane rules in fear of my party being shut down. She is unprofessional and uncoordinated and has evil, slick ways about her. I tried to complain to the owner of the event space days before the party and of course she intercepted. She is truly a nightmare, the bull company even said they were going to complain about her to her boss smh. She did not allow alcohol at the establishment, at least that is what she told me and my 30 something and older guests. There is better party rental places out there for less at that that has more respect for their hosts and guests. Do not rent here. Especially if you are black. I can go further into detail of my horrible 30th birthday party experience but I hope you who are reading this understand that this place is not worth it to...

My husband and I had our 40th birthday here this past weekend. We worked with Te'Niijah and she was great! At this venue, you must expect that you have to bring almost everything yourself except tables and chairs (and the provide black linen if that's the color you're going for which worked out for us). They also have 4 small black couches and 2 coffee tables you can use. They also provide a small stand alone bar. We added 3 regular tables around it to make a larger bar since we had 100 people. You should plan how much time you will need to set up vs clean up when figuring out your party time slots. We did a cocktail hour turned nightclub, hired bartenders and waitstaff (from John Claude Catering - who I would highly recommend!) and had no issues with set up time or clean up. JC staff took care of most of the clean up. I just had to get everything out by the time I promised I would be out by, which wasn't an issue. The space was exactly what we were looking for, exposed brick with that lounge vibe. We loved the long hallway before you entered - there is so much you can do with the space. The staff set up 2 tables in the hallway around 10pm (our party was over at midnight). One table was for cigars and the other was for McDonalds. It was a nice surprise that no one can see until they left the main party room. I tagged The Loft on IG so you should be able to see the rest of the set up from there. We recently hosted our baby shower at The Loft in Montclair, NJ and it was truly an incredible experience. From start to finish everything went smoothly thanks to the amazing team especially Te’Niijah and A’tasia.

The space itself was beautiful modern and spacious with a great layout that worked perfectly for our event. One of the things we really appreciated was that they provided tables and chairs which made planning so much easier. It’s a great setup and the venue is very well maintained.

Te’Niijah and A’tasia were an absolute dream to work with. They were professional friendly and always accessible whenever we had questions. They offered helpful recommendations and made us feel supported throughout the planning process. You can tell they genuinely care about making your event special and stress free.

On the day of the shower everything went off without a hitch. We were able to enjoy ourselves and be present with our guests while knowing that everything behind the scenes was being handled.
