I used to love buying cards and coming to play magic at this store. But the last couple times I have had interactions that just rub me the wrong way as a consumer. The last time I was in I was looking to purchase a precon and draft booster from the new magic set. I was then informed that there is an ID check for purchases over $200. I then mentioned to the employee I would be using my wife’s credit card for the purchase since the name is different on the card from my ID ( my wife wanted the miles from the purchase on the card). I then got a funny look and was questioned on why I was using my wife’s card and was warned about what would happen if they get a call later about a fraudulent transaction. Never been treated more like a potential criminal when trying to buy over $200 from a store before.
On another separate occasion earlier in the summer, I opened an expensive card from the MTG lord of the rings set. I was. Looking to get store credit for it because I liked the shop and did business with them and knew I would be buying more cars from them. The worker expressed concern of how much store credit to offer me because the set just came out. Then he asked me what would I be spending the store credit on. When I said other magic cards possibly an OG dual land or two he started complaining about how he might not want to take the risk to give me fair store credit offer for me to buy dual lands. Just found it very inappropriate to be discriminating how much to offer based on hypothetical future purchases. Needless to say I did not sell the card there as I was offered around $300 store credit. I waited about a week or 2 and buylisted it to Card Kingdom for $720 and used that to make a $1500 purchase online. I know small businesses can’t always match online retailers. But the offer wasn’t even close and CK wasn’t questioning my buying choices with the credit.
Like I said, used to love coming here to play commander and buy products but now I come in every few months when my friends are in town since it’s the closest LGS. Just have no further interest in coming here on a...
Read moreI frequently stop into the store and purchase full booster boxes of mtg. Slowly over the past few months the service has unfortunately gone down hill. It seems the workers are more interested in talking with their friends than helping customers and has caused a few times a line of 3 or more people to pile up with no worker in sight. However, this did not stop me from purchasing product from here until an incident I had just recently. I went in to selling some mtg cards for cash to start simplifying my collection. I brought in 8 near mint condition, never played, mtg cards. Using TCG I got the low end value of the cards to be around $160. Now, I understand selling to a local shop I will not get full value as the business needs to make money and takes the risk by sitting on the inventory. I was shooting for around $100 cash for the cards which I assumed was reasonable. The gentleman in the back looked over the cards and offered me $60, which is a third of the low end value worth. I told the gentleman that I researched a value of $160 and $60 was way too low. He literally laughed at me and said “Your cards aren’t even close to $160”. I told him I know I am not going to get full value but to offer $60 from cards in near mint condition seemed like a joke. Again, he laughed in my face and walked away without an explanation. This interaction was unfortunately my last straw and I will no longer be visiting this location for any reason and using the Watertown shop instead, where I have had great customer service and they will explain how they ended up at pricing they did and next steps. Very unfortunate as this store used to be a such a great place to visit, buy and...
Read moreI have been frequenting this store ever since it opened. I now live a half hour away and will still come here to do business. The owner knows exactly what is in the local market and stocks accordingly. The tables are solid wood and perfect for table top games like Warhammer: 40,000 where you don't want a flimsy folding table rocking and moving stuff around. The staff are exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable about their products and all seem to have a specific area of expertise they are passionate about. I would like to specifically name Logan and Mike for their hard work and great attitude, I feel like family when I come here and the stamp card reward system they have beats any other game store I know of. Mike helped me a lot with Warhammer models, if the manufacturer was out of stock of models he would keep a waiting list for me and would let me know when the models are in so I can pick them up. The prices are a little higher than big box stores but given its a local business and the employees are laid better than those stores it is worth the difference especially when the employees are greeting me by name and spare the few minutes to converse. I will continue to be a customer of Lewis Game Shop until the...
