Checkered Moon — Local services in Mount Dora

On a steamy hot day, I came in with my very young daughter because I shop here often and recalled they had a small refrigerator with drinks. We were really in need of water. I walked in and grabbed one. When I got to the counter, the woman wouldn’t sell it to me. She asked if I had cash, then told me “I’d really like to have a bigger purchase because it’ll charge us for such a small sale.”

Are you serious? I’m standing with my baby, sweating, and you want me to spend more money in your store, which we “used to” shop regularly in. I say “used to” because you’ve lost a customer over that water.

I was appalled at the fact that you were more worried about your bottom line than allowing an obviously hot parent and child grab a bottle of water and cool down.

You said “yeahhhh sorry” and let me go put the bottle back into the fridge and walk back outside sweating.

The same lady that’s always running the place every single time I’ve shopped there.

😕What a shame! Our first visit to beautiful Mount Dora and this was unfortunately the first store we stoped in. It was rain like crazy, my daughter (7) was enjoying the store and all of the cool trinkets when out of nowhere the lady working the shop, whom I will refer to as the Wicked Witch of the West, was nasty and snarky with all of us. She followed my daughter around and took items out of her hand we wanted to purchase and was very short with me when I asked her about a cool item in her store. People down rating this place have no idea what they're talking about. I see most of the negative reviews are from a year ago when a lot of people were fighting over masks/no masks. The team at Checkered Moon is always informed and up to date with CDC guidelines--nothing more, nothing less. Some people need to be a little more gentle with their reviews in such challenging, emotional times. These women are freaking awesome at what they do and their product is phenomenal.
