Where to start...... so we just bought our first house, and it just so happens to be in beautiful Mt Dora. Also in Mt Dora is such a vibrant historic district that is just up the street. So, as adventurers do, we took a stroll and went right into the Goblin Market. The best first stop to our introductory Mt Dora exploration. As a food driven person, I couldn't have been happier. Britton and Chris were nothing shy of absolutely amazing first and foremost. Second, the art was so captivating. Walking to my seat was like a journey through an art gallery. The atmosphere is just warm and inviting. The dining areas are full of art to discover, which kept the night very interesting. What sealed the deal for me, though, was the thought behind each dish and how composed everything was. Each dish was packed with flavor, balance, and creativity. The deviled eggs rivaled my own in flavor, but the kick of truffle and the addition of fried leaks took deviled eggs to another level for me. The octopus was super tender, packed with flavor, and expertly balanced. Picked green tomatoes, candied jalapeño, and a wonderful smokey-ness all complimented each other so well. The escargot and carpaccio are again well executed and delicious. However, the stars of the night (besides Britton and Chris) are the Honey Lavender Duck Breast equal to the market scallops. Both entrees were.... for lack of a better word..... Effffffing Goooood! The duck breast was cooked beautifully, and the glaze was the best part. Not too lavender forward and not too sweet. The fondant potatoes that came with it had a great sear on the outside and almost mashed potatoe-ee on the inside. (Best fondant potatoes I ever had) Last but not least those, crafted by god, scallops. Just look at the sear on them. Cooked to the perfect temp, very tender and flavorful. There was no miss for me here. Even the drinks hit. Everything was made in-house from the dill vinegarette to the cocktails, and you can taste it. Amazing first stop and introduction to Mt Dora. It made me even more excited to see what else is around here. Thanks for all the conversation and for entertaining all my questions. You guys are awesome. FYI, make sure you ask about all the art. The stories around them are intriguing. Expecially the hand drawn art on the second floor. What a story for real. No spoilers here, so go check it out for yourself.

A unique, atmospheric dining spot in the middle of Mt. Dora. It has a walkway up to the door of the restaurant, which is decorated with bookshelves and paintings, almost like a study. We did not make an advance reservation and ended up seated upstairs by the bar in lounge seating, with a couch and two armchairs and a coffee table. My husband ordered the trout and I got the scallops, which were delicious and fresh (though not prepared according to the menu, because, as our waiter explained to us, they had some issues with the listed preparation style). The vegetables were actually my favorite part. Perfect texture and well seasoned. My husband was less impressed with the trout because he was wanting something a bit more seasoned or saucy, but it was very fresh. We got a plate of chicken fingers and fries for our kids off of the spoken kids menu, and the fries were delicious, with a starchy external coating. The entire restaurant is very dim, lighting wise, during dinner (which the pictures I took don't do justice to). The shades were all drawn. It was also quite loud and hard to hear one another, which is probably why our waiter missed our appetizer order. There was also an initial confusion, so we weren't attended to for a while (the hostess did not make it clear if there was or was not a waiter for the lounge seating, so we were rather confused). Otherwise, he was attentive and helpful, with the menu and with taking plates away (since the coffee table gave us not a lot of table space). I would NOT recommend bringing young children. We didn't really see any children at all, not even downstairs when we left. It is on the expensive side as well, so that could play a part? Seating is split across two levels, with most of the tables and chairs downstairs, and the bar and lounge seating upstairs. Overall we mostly enjoyed our dinner, but given that this place came well recommended, we were a little disappointed that it didn't wow us more.

TERRIBLE experience; I have come to The Goblin Market for many years. This small restaurant has been a staple for anniversaries, birthdays, and outings with friends because we love it so much. Tonight however was completely disappointing. We have family in from out of town and couldn’t figure out what to do for dinner and of course they had never eaten here so it was a no brainer. The first thing is our older waiter was extremely short with us and rude, cutting my wife and her aunt off mid order. two of the four meals were not good at all which I never thought I would say. Parts of the chicken in the chicken tenders were very undercooked and mushy. My wife ordered grilled chicken breast as she wasn’t feeling the regular Asiago stuffed chicken. Her chicken was dry and flavorless. My meal was the market steak and I really enjoyed it. The bread is no longer brought to the table as a courtesy that has been reduced in size and 8$ now. The roasted pepper butter that came out with the bread was delicious though. My drink and wife’s drink ran dry most of the meal. The empty dishes were left on the table and repeatedly passed up this is a big deal because the Real estate on the table is slim. The waiter was visibly upset because I asked for lemons with my water. He also was cleaning the table behind us and while I believe not intentionally he sprayed my wife several times with what ever cleaning agent he was cleaning the table with. Just about the only time we felt welcome was when the check came out our waiter asked us if we needed anything and how the meal was. We still left a 30$ tip as it is customary to leave something. There is quite a bit more but for $200+ I have never felt so rushed and unwelcome. The two guys at the host stand were friendly and efficient I can say that. I know our poor review will not shut the place down but it will be some time before I return. I wish they would reach out since I have never been disappointed here.

We visited The Goblin Market with a party of 7 yesterday after the Mt Dora Christmas Parade. We ordered a Irish Whiskey Onion Soup ($14) and a Cashew Chicken Sandwich with fries ($19.75) and a Jolly Holiday Sangria ($13) to share among two of us. The soup was really tasty and had thinly sliced onion rings on top. The only thing I might change is to have smaller cut onions on top as that would make the easier to eat. The Cashew Chicken Sandwich is a fried chicken sandwich that is so very moist, perfectly crisp on the outside and lightly and perfectly flavored. I don’t love cashews by themselves but the cashew crust on this chicken was really really good. The fries were lightly battered and perfect consistency. The Sangria tasted like Christmas and was really good. It had a red wine blend, cinnamon, orange liquor, cranberry, and holiday spices. Our server was Austin and she was excellent. Our table was as attended as we wanted, she paid attention to details, made us feel welcomed and comfortable. She is one of the best servers we have had that we can remember. For this visit, we had two disabled family members and this restaurant has limited accessibility. My sister uses a wheelchair and while she can take a few steps, it is challenging. My Mom is using a cane or Walker recently. The restaurant has just a few tables on the main level and our table was one step up so it was manageable. As electric scooter would it be able to get into the restaurant at all as there are a couple of tight 90 degree turns to enter. This restaurant is decorated really nicely on a regular basis and during this season their holiday decor overlay was classy and festive. I would most definitely give this restaurant a recommendation to visit and we will be back. Since we went right after the parade we expected to wait to be seated. We waited about an hour which met our expectations.

The Goblin Market is one of the best places to have a date night! We made a reservation for dinner and from start to finish the experience was breathtaking. The hostesses were very kind as they seated us, and our waiter Mohammed was lively, knowledgeable of the menu, and very attentive with drinks and bread. His description of the menu and specials had us changing our minds about what we wanted to eat, and we have never had a meal as good as this! We loved the warm ciabatta bread with butter, and the house salad with balsamic. My date isn't a salad person, but he got his with honey mustard because he knows I love it, and my mind was blown at how the flavors combined. Mohammed also told us about the tomatoes used in the salad, and how they're locally picked and their juicy flavor. The tomato was easily my favorite ingredient, aside from the honey mustard! My date's lambchops were juicy, flavorful, and the perfect texture. His mashed potatoes were so fluffy and savory. My market fish (I cannot remember the name but Mohammed described them beautifully) with the pickled blueberries was the perfect tangy and savory bite. We finished off the night with crème bruleé and cranapple bread pudding. The crème bruleé was very smooth and paired amazingly with the fresh strawberries and house-made whipped cream, and the bread pudding had the perfect amount of spice. We loved the vanilla ice cream with the warmth of the bread pudding. I highly recommend it for dessert! Mohammed also took the time to take pictures for us, and despite the restaurant closing for the night he did not rush us at all, and even offered to take our picture in the beautifully decorated lounge. We will be back for more date nights and also for lunch soon! Thank you for such a wonderful experience.
