We came today expecting et al like we remembered from our times here previously. It has been about 5 or 6 years since we were up this way. The owners at that time were from a small town in Bavaria and the food reflected this. Did this place change ownership? First off, we ordered coffees. What we got tasted burnt almost, like it had been sitting in a pot on the burner for a long time. We sent it back and, to their credit, they took it off the bill. Three in our party got pretzel baguette sandwiches. They were unimpressive to say the least. I ordered potato pancakes as a starter. They were crispy but extremely thin and rather oily. There was way more apple sauce and sour cream than these three pancakes even needed. One of us got the wiener schnitzel. It was about half the size it used to be. The red cabbage that came with it was a bit overcooked and more sour and salty than sweet and spicy. The fries were ok but portion was very small. I got the rouladen. I was impressed with the size of this beefy roll, but couldn't detect much in the way of fillings. The taste was just ok. There was a lot of a salty gravy on it as well as the spaetzle noodles, which were again, ok. My red cabbage was the same as what my friend got with his schnitzel. We declined to dessert. All in all, I am quite disappointed with the food here. Also, while we were eating on the outdoor patio, which is in the very front, three of the staff were sitting there smoking while we ate. Having worked for years as a server in various restaurants, this is, in my opinion, a no-no. The other tables which were empty on the patio also looked like they needed a thorough cleaning. Our server, a young man, was nice enough but, it irked me when I sent the coffee back and he said it wasn't old and he had just made it. If that coffee had just been made, someone needs to be taught how to make coffee for sure, especially since this "German coffee" was $4.50 a cup. I don't think we will return to this restaurant again. If we hadn't been really hungry, we would have probably would have left much of this food uneaten. I hope this restaurant can turn itself around for the future and get back to how it used to be. Based on some not so good reviews I have read on here just now, I can see from our experience why so many people...
Read moreI'm a Mount Dora resident who eats locally on the regular. My boyfriend and I were there on a Sunday after we walked around the farmers market. We had a hankering for a good Hotdog so we decided to give the Bavarian place a shot since it was a gorgeous day and they have a very inviting outdoor seating area. Upon arriving we come to the host stand were no one is at and grab menus to look over it. There is an older woman waiting on the three tables that were seated outside already. As she walked around she never looked in our direction or acknowledged us. Which as someone who has worked in the service industry I understand you can get busy and not realize someone is there. So we just took a seat at one of the outside tables in between the other 3 tables already occupied. We waited about 5 mins (I understand this isn't a lot of time but she never looked at us and was within 3ft of us plenty of times) and the waitress is walking right past our table at least 3-4 times still not acknowledging us. After that she comes to our table and says what do you want to drink? No hello, my name is, or anything friendly. We both tell her our drinks and ask for what they have that is similar to hot dogs, she replies with a very short unfriendly answer and walks away. Now after ordering our drinks and our food. This waitress walks by us numerous times asking all the other tables if they have everything they need we wait another 15-20 mins and she never brings our drinks or speaks to us. We are both extremely friendly people who have worked in the service industry for many years but for some reason this woman was rude and ignored us the entire time and it's not like we far away from her tables we were literally 4ft from the other customers shes was taking care of. I hope the owner of this restaurant understands that they are losing good customers who eat out often and spend money going out to eat having an employee like this. We will not be returning. Hopefully this is helpful for someone not local looking for a good place to eat in Mount Dora, as there are so many great restaurants but this is NOT...
Read moreBier und Wein ist hier ausgezeichnet! Excellent beer and wine selection and quality. To reiterate a previous review, the customer service is cold, very cold. I arrived 3 minutes before opening and was treated like a student showing up for detention. But, as a Germanophile I overlooked that; I get uneasy if Iâm treated too nicely.
The quality and authenticity of the food is hit and miss. If it werenât for the libations and Saturday evening live music, I would have been cold in response to the food. I loved hearing the pounding sounds coming from the kitchenâthatâs the sound of the schnitzel being tenderized and flattenedâthat took me back to great times in small neighborhood Gasthöfe in Germany and Austria!
The veal Wienerschnitzel at $18.95 was good but small. Next time Iâd order the pork schnitzel which is cheaper and I hope would be bigger. In Austria the schnitzel was so big it would lop over the edges of the plate.
The Gulaschsuppe at $5.95 was very good but tasted like it had shredded bbq pork in it. Thatâs my assumption, but I was certainly disappointed by the salads and pretzels with butterâthese were cheap, standard American style side dishes. Salat $2.00, 1 freezer Brezel mit Butter $2.70.
The meat and cheese cold cuts Kalte Platte at $12.95 left much to be desired, but also it came with something I didnât desireâmold. The sliced pork was dry and covered in white slimy mold. I discretely and politely brought this to the serverâs attention, but she did not acknowledge it. I wasnât looking for a refund, and I tipped decently. I am a biology teacher and an excellent cook, if I do say so, and I know mold when I see it.
I want to see this establishment succeed. Patrons, ask what is fresh and recommended before you order. Iâd recommend to the proprietors to not take shortcuts on quality, offer only items cooked from scratch or imported from a scratch-based supplier, and insure that the wait staff is at least somewhat GemĂŒtlich to entering guests and not rely on the amazing GetrĂ€nke to make Alles Gute und bequem later.
Viel GlĂŒck und Auf...
