Bomgaars — Local services in Mount Orab

If I could give this place zero stars I would. So I called up here about two weeks ago to see if I could place an order for some birds. They told me yes to come in and place it with the store manager. So I did when I got there they told me that I did not have to place it with the store manager. They gave me a list of birds that they could get and I chose from the list and they had me write them down on a piece of paper with my name and phone number. They told me they would make sure that the store manager got it and the order would be placed. They never told me any specifications on the birds or how many I needed to order. But I had ordered chickens, ducks, geese, and quail. The order was for 45 birds. I gave my list to the lady at the register. She said she would make sure the order was placed. I was still a little worried so I asked a second employee to make sure my order was placed as well. They reassured me it would be. So fast-forward two weeks I’ve heard nothing from them about my birds. So I call to see when I should be expecting them. I get on the phone with what I’m assuming is the store manager and ask her about my birds and she tells me that there is a minimum on each breed. And she has to check about my order. I tell her no one bothered to tell me that or had even called to let me know. She then tells me that I could’ve ordered from the hatchery like I didn’t already know that. But I ordered from them because they said they could get them in. And then tells me that she couldn’t give me any discounts. I wasn’t expecting a discount. I was just wanting my birds. Then when I ask, has my order even been placed, she tells me that my order has still not been placed. So two weeks has gone by and no one has bothered to call me so we could get this corrected and I don’t even know if they were ever going to call me if I hadn’t called. And now I’m sitting here having to start all over with ordering birds somewhere else. I usually don’t shop here because the prices are already high. But because it was convenient and the closest feed store to my house I decided I would give them a try. But let me tell you save yourself the hassle and just go to Tractor Supply, Rural King, Family Farm And Home, or a hatchery. Do not order birds from here. They handle this very unprofessionally. We finally checked this place out, after many advertisements in the mail. Overall we had a great shopping experience and spent a lot buying clothing items, boots, etc and found good deals.

The only reason for not giving 5 stars was that customer service did not appear to be a priority (keep in mind we were there at the close of Memorial Day, and these employees had likely been there a while).

Example: We were checking out and somebody had apparently pressed the “need assistance” button in firearms, and the lady at the counter was very frustrated, saying “nobody is there today, we don’t have anyone in firearms”. The attitude of both checkout ladies was… underwelming. Except for when offering a “rewards membership.” A few moments later a gentleman came up front and asked if somebody could please help him buy shells. Apparently Bomgaars has shells locked up and you have to have an employee who took special classes on how to sell those in order to purchase. Besides that being ridiculous (even Walmart apparently has these on self-serve shelves?), the checkout ladies and the store manager (Hannah) were very curt and dismissive of this shopper. As someone who works in a small business, I was amazed at the lack of understanding and customer service demonstrated to this guy. I’ll keep that in mind in the future when it comes to big purchases/returns. If that is how Hannah treats a “small time” shopper, the rest of the store’s staff can’t be blamed for following suit. Two suggestions - change the policy with ammunition (or come up with a better solution for the whole situation), and find a manager who cares about the shopper experience. We had a decent experience, but I’d be shocked if that guy ever comes back. And...

Aggravating visit. Needed some targets and a box of 9mm. Found the targets and grabbed them, and saw that they keep the ammo behind the counter. Trouble was, the guy was locked into a conversation with another customer and wouldn't even acknowledge my presence. I stood there for a few minutes then walked off They lost the sale of 200 rounds right there. On the way out I thought I might buy some new work boots. Went to try a pair on and found they are hooked together so you have the other boot hanging in mid air while you're trying to put one on. Got mad about that and gave up on the idea. $200 sale lost right there. From what I saw it's just a renamed Orscheln which was way over priced just like this version. I'm not saying I won't be back, but if I do, I'll be pretty desperate...
