Apparently the Mount Pleasant location has an aversion to young people. I shop the Columbia location any time my husband, three sons, and one son-in-law need clothing, and they are the most cordial, gracious, helpful, customer oriented people anywhere. My youngest son, whose birthday is today (27) lives in Mount Pleasant. I gave him money as his gift to purchase a new suit and told him that he should absolutely go to Joseph A. Bank there in Mount Pleasant because we have always had a great experience and found exactly what everyone needed in Columbia. WRONG!!! He had the absolute most inexcusable experience a potential customer should ever have!! He went in, told the associate he was looking for a new suit for a special dinner this weekend. This happened to be the only day out of his work schedule he could shop. He was met with an ABSOLUTE UNWILLINGNESS to help him in any way. He was told they sell nothing that doesn’t have to be entirely altered and that their alterations department is completely backed up and would never be able to do anything by Saturday. They did not offer to assist him in any way…not “but let me show you what we do have in case you have other alteration options”, not “you’re welcome to look”, not “I am happy to show you what we do have though”. NOTHING! So he immediately left. My husband has owned a retail business for over 36 years. Sales associates would immediately be unemployed if they treated a potential customer in this way. In this day and time, with the state of our economy, and the challenge for so many retail establishments to stay afloat, you would think a potential sale would be welcomed and embraced, not basically run out of the store. He will never be back. We will share the horrible experience as much as possible. He spent his $500 gladly at the nearby Men’s Warehouse, where he had a completely 180 degree different experience. Associates went above and beyond to help him find exactly what he was looking for, and were proactive in creating solutions to have it ready for him Saturday. Thank you for nothing, Mount Pleasant...
Read moreI wish I could say I had a great experience with Jos A Bank, but unfortunately that isn't the case. I went in to purchase a suit for a special event. They seemed understaffed, and the person helping me was running around helping several others as well. But we picked out something nice, I was measured for tailoring, and since they didn't have a shirt in my size, one was ordered to be sent to my home. The staff that helped me was nice and easy to work with.
A few weeks later, I went to pick up my suit. The jacket fit nicely, but the pants were still too long, so they needed to be adjusted. Perhaps I had been measured wrong the first time. I was told it would take 20 minutes, but it took more like an hour. Again, the store seemed to be too busy for the staff, who I observed helping several customers simultaneously. My pants were finally finished, and I left. Again, the staff were nice, but I felt inconvenienced at this point.
It goes downhill with the shirt. It arrived maybe a week before the event. I had not thought to try it on, because I was measured for the fit. So, when I put the shirt on the day of the event, I was very surprised that it didn't fit. The arms were too short, the neck was too tight, and somehow the rest of the shirt was extremely loose. It was uncomfortable to wear, and I felt foolish wearing it. Fortunately, the tie and jacket were enough to hide how bad it looked. The drawback is that I didn't have an opportunity to remove my jacket for the rest of the night. It is extremely disappointing to be fitted for a shirt that ends up not fitting. So, while I'm generally satisfied with the rest of the suit, I doubt I will be going back in the future for...
Read moreMy husband and I had a great experience with this location and would like to specifically thank Brett for going above and beyond to make sure that everything was right, as well as the tailors/alterations team who did a phenomenal job. We had ordered a custom suit for our wedding from another Joseph A location because none of the options on the rack fit my husband quite right. However, when the suit came in, the fit was absolutely terrible and looked worse than the on rack options we had been initially presented. Having lost all faith in the other location, we brought the suit to the Mt. Pleasant store to see what our options were (with less than 3 weeks before our wedding). When we got to the Mt. Pleasant store, they saw the exact issues that we were seeing and figured out that whoever measured my husband at the other store measured really wrong. Brett really went above and beyond and I cannot thank him enough for his service and diligence in making sure that the suit was fixed. After extensive alterations, the suit fit perfectly and looked like what it should have from the beginning. I cannot thank this store enough for making sure that my groom looked his best on...
