This was my first time at this restaurant. It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon and I just wanted to treat myself to lunch. I originally turned in the shopping center to go to Cava, and I came across this place. Pulled them up on Google to look at the menu and reviews and I was impressed. So I gave them a try. The customer service at the host stand was exceptional with the mgr and host!
However, my server, Stephan, definitely needs more training. There were things he did and didn't do that did not give the "upscale dining experience" as advertised on Google!
For starters, it took him well over 12-15 minutes to even come to my table and greet me. Typically if a server isn't available, host will have you wait in the lobby so that your server can start you with drinks within 5 minutes of seating. When he brought my water, he did not bring a straw to the table. What waitress doesn't have straws in their apron ?! He said he'd be right back, but the next time he came out, he was actually bringing something to another table, not me. This made me feel unseen, or last priority! Serving is all about multitasking. You could have absolutely brought the other table their check and brought me a straw in the same trip!
When he was finally ready to take my order, I asked about some popular favorites since this was my first visit. He told me about 3 or 4 different options, which left me kind of puzzled again because I didn't know which one to choose because they all sounded yummy! I told him to give me a few minutes. He went to two other tables in the meanwhile that were right next to me and as he was walking to the back, I told him I'd like to go ahead and place my order because I had figured it out while he were at the other two tables. He didn't. He brushed me off and made me wait until he came back. Again, multitasking... If you're already walking to the kitchen, why not place my order and do what the other tables need all in one trip?!
I'm not saying it was a horrible experience, although my Parmesan fries were not hot and fresh. I'm just making it aware that this did not give upscale vibes. It gave a typical restaurant experience and when I pay upscale prices, I expect...
Read moreI was really pumped to visit this restaurant after reading reviews here and on Allergy Eats. We all have food allergies and it sounded like this was the place to go near Charleston. I have to say we were a bit disappointed. While the meal started off pretty well and the manager Ryan was very attentive to our allergy needs we ended up having to wait a little over an hour to get our food. There was a bit of trouble apparently getting separate oil ready for our French fries. It took so long our meats were brought out about 10-15 mins ahead of the fries. My three small kids were all complaining they were very hungry by the time we could eat. Our server Tim virtually disappeared after the food came. Ryan was more attentive diluting the meal than Tim was. We had to ask multiple times for drink refills with empty cups on the table. I sent my family to the car when ready for the check and sure enough another 10 minute wait just to get the check. For more than $70 I expected a lot better. I wanted so much to like the place but my family and I came away sorely disappointed. Super bummed that this place just didn't live up to the hype... Update: Ryan reached out to us and expressed his regret that the our experience at the restaurant did not go very well and he adjusted our bill to help compensate. This was great on his part to do and we appreciate it very much. I would gladly trade that though for a better experience to begin with. I've added one more star to my review....
Read moreThe restaurant goes above and beyond to ensure guests with food allergies are able to dine safely. We have a young child with multiple severe food allergies. Dining out is always nearly impossible and stressful for us. We rarely ever get to dine out because of it. Most places just act like we are being difficult just to be difficult. When in reality we just don't want our child to die and haven't been out to eat in a year.
So when I read about the allergy commitment at Burton's, I was sure to check it out. The waiter was extremely knowledgeable about all the ingredients and substitutions that could be made.
The allergies were communicated and repeated both at order taking and order being brought to table. The allergy free meal also came out on a square plate to distinguish it. The clarified exactly what would be substituted to make a certain item allergy free and that it would be prepared separately.
This is the Gold standard of how dining should be. For those of us in the food allergies community it can't be overstated how much we appreciate it. I almost had tears in my eyes watching my son eat a meal without being concerned about a reaction of any kind. Having no anxiety while enjoying a meal.
The food was also amazing for the rest of us as well. All members of our party thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We all left...
