Attended their Lakehouse Crab and Oyster roast 2/1 in Columbia. I arrived at 1:30 and left around 5pm to ensure I got my moneys worth. They unfortunately were short staffed and it severely negatively impacted the event. Doors didn’t open until 2:10ish (early check in was 1:45pm). The food was not available until around 2:40 and was not announced, so if you were not hawking, you had no clue. There was no instruction or communication from the hosts, leaving guests to pass along information as we heard it from other guests. There was no live entertainment as advertised (unless you count the hangry guests getting snippy with each other), no DJ as advertised, and one food truck. There were no trash receptacles, leaving guests to pile theirs and others scraps into piles on the table. Many guests I spoke with were highly upset and disappointed at the lack of preparation and the savagery of guests that grew tired of the long wait times. At several points, guests took it upon themselves to reach into steamers to grab food with their bare hands once the staff opened the lids. If you’ve ever watched the Lion King, we all were the hyenas basically lol. A low country crab boil typically involves the food being placed across the entire table (this event had 3 tables and placed their portions in the middle of the table so if you were on the ends you were SOL) and people standing around the table share the space, taking only a few items to eat as they eat it. Guests were allowed to sit at the tables, essentially never moving, leaving 60-80 other people looking for scraps circling the tables like sharks or waiting another 30-45 mins for the next drop and hauling butt to grab some. Table hogs would hoard whatever they could grab each drop, essentially upsetting literally almost everyone else. I would be unjust if I did not applaud and commend the men who worked the event, as they all (except the big guy) were working their butts off with no breaks. I truly hope the owner took them out for drinks afterwards because boy did they earn it!! They had great attitudes, stayed engaged with the guests and did what they could with what they had and pushed out some good food. Oysters were ‘fresh out the ocean’ fresh. Shuckers were provided. Snow crabs were amazing and although I don’t eat them, people were demolishing the blue crabs so I’ll assume they were sublime. I only heard complaints about the shrimp (that I also did not try) in the regard that they were mushy. For any future events, respectfully, I’d advise to either have several food options readily accessible for guests to select once they arrive, especially when advertising VIP tickets, maybe allow VIPs 30 mins early entry to eat.. or have some actual entertainment or games for guests to distract them from the wait times…especially if it’s advertised. A lot of people paid $50 for their tickets but simply refused to have to fight for food and...
