This has been our go-to hotel when we stay in Charleston. The location is great for easy parking and access to either Charleston or Sullivan’s Island.
This trip we stayed for a full week and some concerning issues kept arising, mainly the complete lack of customer service from most every employee we encountered.
Nearly every front desk worker we approached was wearing AirPods. This gave the impression they were listening to something or on other phone calls. Few things telegraph your level of importance to a frontline worker than wearing these things. Numerous times, we approached the front desk and had to stand there to attract the focus and attention of workers because they were staring at their cell phones. Not a great look.
Also, we were excited to see a bar advertised in this location and it was never open. I asked an employee who confirmed it was not open. So disappointing. Other Hyatt Houses have wonderful bar programs and this location is not close to dining and drink options and could be a good offering for patrons.
A few other issues we encountered:
I was excited to use the Peloton in the exercise room but it was failing to connect to the network. I asked three different employees for help: One had no clue what the Peloton was, another said she would let the engineer know right away, and a third confirmed that the employee who let the engineer know never did. There was a large amount of fruit flies swarming the coffee cups and in the breakfast food area which seemed indicative of cleanliness issues. There was an odd scene during the week when a badged maintenance worker or perhaps engineer would roam the building while holding a cell phone blaring audio books or podcasts. When we checked in our first day, the garbage bins flanking the street entrance were overflowing with garbage and were that way all day long. The pool area, despite the hot weather, seemed like it was unkempt and if you looked hard, could notice small issues that appear they could turn into larger ones later because nobody is looking — weeds popping out of walls, chairs dirty and in...
Read moreI can't say enough about this hotel ! Guest services are so friendly from the moment you walk in. They always greeted us whether we were coming in or going out. They were great to offer extra towels when needed and answer any questions that we had. Check in & check out was super easy. The breakfast was great for a hot breakfast, but it was very crowded, Part of the area is very small and trying to get an omelet was about impossible, but they did offer scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, waffles, grits and other breakfast items. The coffee was fantastic; hot & fresh!. The rooms were clean and actually had a great cable selection. They have hot water and great water pressure. Only problem with the room was in the bathroom and it's not really the hotel's fault, it's just a terrible design. The bottom of the shower has a terrible design flaw and it leaks onto the floor. We did mention it to the front desk and they we glad to give extra towels and suggested to just turn the shower head a little toward the wall. This was honestly a very MINOR thing to us as we just put a towel down on the floor instead of the little rug. It's not enough to deter us from coming back. Although we did not bring our dogs with us, this is a pet friendly hotel and I was so excited to see so many dogs with their owners. We had several on our floor and I never heard them. I wouldn't have even known, if I didn't see them. This is a great hotel for the price. Super close to everything. 10 - 15 mins to downtown Charleston. 5-8 mins to Patriot's Point. Close to Boone Hall Plantation and so many other attractions. Walmart is literally right around the corner. The neighborhood is very nice & felt safe. There is a front and rear entrance to the hotel that leads you to the front desk. There is parking on the back of the hotel which is so convenient at night and it's off the main road. This is an honest review as I always try & read reviews when picking a hotel. So, I hope this helps someone! I'm so glad we chose this hotel, and we will definitely be...
Read moreThis is a great hotel with room options, such as a kitchen unit, suite, or just a regular king room. We stay here often when we visit the Charleston area. We eat a "whole foods, plant based, low fat diet" that prevents us from eating out at restaurants, so this hotel is ideal. The diet is recommended for reversing heart disease and in Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn's book "Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease" (dresselstyn.com). In this hotel, reception folks are really friendly and helpful. Rooms have been very clean. The location is in a safe, walkable area and close to shopping, restaurants, and not too far from Isle of Palms beaches. The neighborhood is a new development that includes a nice lake (see photos) with a wide sidewalk and pet stations with bags and waste disposals units. This is a pet friendly hotel, so we were able to bring our small dog to the hotel. Room is designed to be pet friendly with a mixture of hard floor surfaces with very short carpet. We had an interesting experience December 2021 when we had family members staying at a competing hotel. We were all in the area for our grand daughter's graduation at College of Charleston. When discussing our hotel experiences, our family members at the competitor's hotel stated the hallway walls were scarred and were not maintained properly at the hotel they were using. In fact at the competitor's hotel, our family member said it looked like they had been running the maintenance and housekeeping carts into the walls in the hallways. Here at Hyatt House, I took a pictures of the hallways. They are very clean and the walls look great. All are well maintained and look very clean without damage. The elevators are lined with stainless steel and are very...
