Absolutely do not recommend this hotel—disorganized, dismissive, and medically unsafe.
I booked a 2-Queen Courtyard Balcony View room I found on the Marriott Bonvoy app for July 4th and called ahead to confirm a fragrance-free room due to a chronic condition. Staff assured me it would be accommodated. 45 minutes later, the assistant manager left a voicemail saying the room was no longer available due to a “glitch,” but when I called back she stated the computers were updating and my room was already booked. She did confirm the new room would still meet the fragrance-free request.
When we arrived, the female staff member was confused, flustered, and unprofessional. She claimed I had no reservation (despite my confirmation), then admitted they entered my name incorrectly. Once in the room, it was heavily heavily scented.
When we went back down to report the issue, the same female staff member offered to put a machine in the room to clear the air—but said we’d need to leave for an hour. Then she told us to wait in the room for the housekeeping manager. The odor was so overwhelming we had to leave again. They offered to store our luggage, but my daughter is a Type 1 diabetic, and we weren’t comfortable leaving her medical supplies—so we reloaded our car and left.
About 30 minutes later, she called and said we could return. When we got back, we found the door propped open and fans set up. Unfortunately it still smelled the same. I suspect no machine was used. We moved the fans into the hallway and let the front desk know. She panicked, saying someone might steal them, and ran off. Being it was a holiday, late in the evening and they had already charged my card…we didn’t have many options other than to stay.
The next morning, the assistant manager argued with me, insisting they used no fragrances and blamed the previous male guest. She said she helped personally clean the room. They kept arguing about the difference between hypoallergenic and fragrance free. I had to tell her I was not going to debate my health conditions. Many hotels don’t use fragranced chemical’s and she should’ve been upfront so I could’ve made an informed decision. Fragrances linger and this hotel is dated and I suspect why it’s heavily fragranced. She claimed she would adjust the bill—but when I received the email, no adjustment was made.
We missed the fireworks (a key reason for our trip), I got sick, and we spent more time accommodating the hotel and staff than them helping us enjoy our vacation. While housekeeping did a great job at cleaning and the gentleman training at the front desk was superb in trying to assist us, I won’t stay here again. If you have allergies, medical conditions, or expect honesty and professionalism, avoid this hotel.
Edit: Someone contacted me and adjusted the room to reflect my experience and will use this experience as a training tool. I’m very appreciative that someone took...
Read moreI reserved a handicapped room for my son and his friend who is in a wheelchair for two nights. They were there for their college roommate"s wedding. When I called in February to reserve the room for May, I talked with a nice white woman who was very helpful answering my questions and getting me the right room to suit the young man in the wheelchair. She even told me that once they got to Mt. Pleasant, they could scoot on by since that room would most likely be ready before 3:00. I had told her that the boys needed to take showers and be at the church for rehearsal in Summerville right after 4:00. I was happy knowing that I had secured a great place and since the rest of the wedding party was also at this Marriott, everything seemed great! Well, the boys got down about 1:45 and was told that the room was almost ready. My son kept checking and they kept on saying , Oh just a few more minutes more". Well, the boy in the wheelchair had to go ahead and use the downstairs public restroom to try and change his clothes to get ready for the rehearsal. He had no chance to take a shower and it was hard not having enough space in the bathroom to change. My son stayed with the other bags they had on the cart while the friend was trying to change. At 3:05,my son went back to the counter (he was sitting in the chair in front of the counter), and asked about getting into the room. He was told that check in was at 3;00. He said, "it is 3:05 and I want my room! They asked if there was anything else they could do for him. NO!!!!!!!!!!!! He wanted his room!!!!! They were also supposed to have a sofa that pulled out in the room, but they did not have one. They had to call for a tv remote control since there was not one in the room. I am so disappointed that I booked this place for the boys or should I say, young men to stay in while at the wedding. I will NEVER recommend this place to anyone, nor will I stay myself. There are many other hotels to stay at and I wish that my son and his friend had left and found another hotel. So so sad that I booked it in February and they could not be ready for this precious young man in a wheelchair to get into the room to take a shower and get dressed properly. A month ago I stayed in a Courtyard Marriott in State College, PA and it was delightful! Quite a difference between this one and...
Read moreStaff: when I checked in the front desk was very helpful and accommodating. I was able to check in early. Unfortunately, the other bridal party and guest did not receive the same treatment. they have called my phone telling me their experience in checking in and how they received attitude from the front desk.
room: When i was about to use the shower, I noticed that there were some bugs in the tub- silver fish. which was ok, cause i was able to kill it and throw it away. when i called to have house keeping to disinfect the area. it seems like it was such a burden for them to come to my room to clean the tub.
as mentioned before when i checked- in, i was greeted nicely. as the rest of the bridal party and guest came in that day and the next. they did not receive the same treatment. the front desk was rude and telling them that their rooms are not ready when in fact their check in was at 3pm- please note that some of the guest arrived early in the morning, but decided to explore charleston for they knew that check in is after 3pm.
also the bride made welcome bags to welcome her family and guest who flew in for her wedding. she understood that for security purposes, she's not allowed to drop them off in the room. So I called the front desk that the bride would like to leave welcome bags for her guest who are staying. they have said yes it was fine and that they'll be able to accommodate her. so she left the welcome bags at the front desk, leaving them instructions and names. she have informed ALL of her guest that as they check in, she have left them welcome bags at the front desk. as her family and friends checks in and asked for the bags. the front desk REFUSED the give the bags to the corresponding guest. This caused the family and friends of the bride to call me and informed me about the situation. I called the hotel immediately, and informed the the situation and how the bride was upset- for she have spent time and money for those bags, just to ensure her family and friends are welcomed in Charleston. when I called I got an attitude from the front desk as well- how they did not receive the instructions or the name. I know this was not true, for I myself and my friend saw the list as we picked up our...
