Flying J Dealer--Huck's Travel Center — Local services in Mount Vernon

This place has gone to HELL in a hand basket since Pilot-Flying J took it over. Way understaffed, poorly maintained facilities, mold and mildew all over in the showers, restrooms unkempt, and filthy, with one of the largest parking lots in the area it's still doubtful to find a safe parking spot at or before sundown and you can just plain forget about that after sunset. The paved parking lot is in DIRE NEED of extensive repairs to pavement and could easily be filled to capacity at twice its current size 350+ nights a year. I could rant on at deficiencies of this place adnausium but I'll just close in saying the ONLY reason I stop here is for access to the Walmart store directly adjacent and that this is where I often run out of daylight time while running OS/OD loads thru here and have little other choice for a somewhat safe...

The worse service at Huddle House restaurant,.. 13 min to get waited on,.. 13.28 to be exact,.. I started stopwatch after two min,. Only 4 customers..1 came in after me,. Was waited on before me.. Two young women at the booth next to mine received 4 visits from the waiter, who completely ignored me. When I was finally waited on by a young lady, I pointed out the time I had been waiting,. The first thing out of her mouth was; " it's not my station" I just saw you sitting here,.. Wow 4 customers and 6 employees working,. 3 of them wait staff, Huddle house,.. Adding this as a regular stop for us! The ladies at the register are all business and quick. Got us in a shower with no wait that was clean, lots of water pressure, and HOT 🔥 water. Be warned! Lots of room for a team. Lots of places to hang clothes and towels. Nice size vanity counter and two seats, one in shower and one outside. Did I mention clean?! Then we grabbed a couple of slices and some drinks, cleaned the windows and mirrors (squeegee could use replacing), and hit the road again. Less than an hour!
