Miss Essie's Southern BBQ — Local services in Murray

On a whim I decided to try a business I'd never heard of before to cater our son's wedding rehearsal dinner for 70 guests. Everyone loved the food. We had bone-in chicken, mac and cheese (wonderful!), corn, spinach salad, Texas toast, brownie bites and lemon bars. There was plenty of main dish foods for everyone. If I were to recommend any improvement it would be regarding the desserts. There was not nearly enough. At least half of our guests didn't even get to try any because the lemon bars were cut so tiny and I think there was only portioned out one piece of dessert per guest. I did hear they were delicious. Also, the Texas Toast was not buttered or toasted. It was just plain bread from what I could tell. The lemonade was just from a Minute Maid can in powdered form—nothing special. I googled best BBQ places for catering and Miss Essie’s came up! I was so nervous because I was in charge of planning my best friend of 22 years rehearsal dinner the night before her wedding and I don’t live in Utah. Well let me tell you this place did not fall short of true perfection! The customer service, set up, and food were absolutely spectacular!

We ordered the beef ribs (bone in), pulled pork, and bone in chicken quarters. My top two were the chicken quarters and the pulled pork! For sides we also ordered the roasted potatoes, corn, and Mac and cheese. Between those 3 the Mac and cheese and corn were my top 2!

Marcus was so kind, professional, and helpful! They set everything up in time and we’ll in advanced! The food was hot and the butter they had for the Texas toast was sooo good!! Their online platform for booking them for an event was super easy to use and they were always there to answer my calls!

We ordered the slab of ribs for 3-6 (comes with rolls), Mac & cheese, and green beans. They’re still working out a few issues with the online ordering but no biggie, I called & ordered and paid via Venmo. There was a bit of a lag time between time time we placed the order & when it was ready but good food takes time! And oh-my-gosh...it was delicious! The ribs were smoky, not drenched in sauce, and fall off the bone tasty! The mac & cheese was amazing - gooey and creamy- and the green beans with the bacon & onion were crisp, not mushy, and so good.

The only thing I’d pick at is the 20% catering charge. While I understand that if they’re delivering & possibly setting up, when I pick up, it doesn’t seem warranted. That said....I would have tipped about that amount anyway so I just skipped the tip, given the surcharge. I’ll be keeping them in mind for team events when we’re back to having gatherings again.
