Not enough focus gets put on clothing stores for big and tall people, but places like this really deserve a shout-out!
My wife and I are both, as we like to say, "diamond sized" individuals, and I remember the first time she came across a clothing store where the merch was exclusively made for women her size. It was awesome to see her in something that looked good and that made her feel amazing to wear (Torrid, ladies, for any of you who are wondering).
Anyway, I thought I might tentatively try that out for myself, so I looked up men's big and tall. While plenty of mainstream clothing stores (Nordstrom, Dillard's, Kohl's, etc.) just had links to their big and tall sections, I was looking for a store designed for someone like myself. That's when I found DXL.
Coming here that first time was just magical, and I completely get how my wife felt - I got a massive self-confidence boost and felt good in everything I tried on... and I tried a lot! The employees there were just as happy for me to be discovering for myself just how nice my appearance can be with the right tools. They never felt like salespeople to me, but rather were genuinely happy for me - I can imagine they see that a lot in newcomers.
If you find yourself searching in men's big and tall sections of stores and still come away feeling sub-par, then stop going to those stores and give DXL a try, you will not be...

On this particular occasion I was somewhat disappointed because i wasn't able to use my alleged birthday rewards. I got an email reminder on March 25th reminding me that I had 300 bonus points for my birthday and that they had to be used by the end of the month. My birthday was on the 28th and I went in on the 29th so as not to miss out on this deal. The email said to sign in to claim my rewards which I did in front of the clerk. I showed him my phone so he could help me get it to work but he said it showed I didn't have enough points to use. I ended up just using a generic coupon they'd sent out instead but was hoping I could use both. I made the purchase anyway but in retrospect I should've asked for the manager who had helped me earlier with a measurement.
Then on April 1st, I received another email stating that my $15 Rewards Certificate is here, this one came with a barcode in the email which states I can use online or just present in the store without having to sign in. I'm guessing I got this because of the purchase I just made but it's a...
Read moreWas initially leery about shopping at a big and tall specialty store. My concerns were quickly squelched. Store layout is fantastic and mirrors a feeling similar to Nordstrom. Store presents big and tall versions of the largest and most recognizable brands. Pricing was competitive although slightly pricey if you need to tailor (I am thinner in the body than I am chest and shoulders so tailoring was needed on the formal wear). I purchased a suit, sportscoat, vest, half a dozen pairs of dress shirts and slacks, half a dozen ties, two dozen high end dress socks, and a belt. After alterations and tax I spent roughly two thousand. Pricey but fair to finally find well-fitting and stylish clothing.
Do yourself a favor and work with Ron if you are piecing out formal wear. His knowledge base and eye for fit and finish were the best I've found. This was by far the best shopping experience I've ever had.
I will be a return...
