My husband and I were in Calistoga this weekend celebrating our anniversary. We did a spa day today so we honestly weren't dressed the "fanciest". On the way home, we decided to stop in Napa for a late lunch and shopping. We had amazing pizza at Croccante and while we were eating, I spotted this business and was really excited to go look for a gift for my mother who was watching our son for us while we were away. She collects old tea pots and cups. My husband and I walked in and immediately I saw some vintage toys and dresses and was so excited. However, the ladies working didn't say hello or even acknowledge my husband or myself. I didn't think much of it and we continued to browse. I stopped in front of a counter where some employees sat behind and the look on their faces when we made eye contact was not friendly in the slightest. Still, I smiled and kept browsing. Shortly after, I noticed an employee who was staying very close to my husband and myself. At first I thought I was overthinking it but every where we stepped, there she was. "Adjusting" items, shifting things around. And it just so happened to be everywhere we were. I started to feel uncomfortable but still told myself that I was overthinking it. Then some more customers walked in. Older women with little dogs. And wouldn't you know, they got the most FRIENDLY over-the-top greeting and that sealed it for me. I told my husband I wanted to leave. We walked out and I didn't say a word about it. My husband immediately asked if I noticed how the employee was following us. That's when I knew it wasn't just my imagination. Again, the two of us were coming from a spa day and were dressed comfortably. We both also have visible tattoos. So I'm not sure if it was that or what it was about us that warranted this treatment but it's incredibly disheartening and it weighed on me the entire drive home. I was in retail management and customer service for 20 years for a large chain of stores. I have actually had to fire management team members for doing this exact thing. It's truly disappointing that in a town like Napa, a melting pot of all kinds of people, this mentality still exists. The worse part was, I actually did see some stunning China I wanted to purchase. Unfortunately, I walked out not spending a dime and based on my experience, I will guess this business couldn't care less. Update: after reviewing their social media accounts, it appears that the employee who was following us is actually one of the owners of this...
Read more2 stars because the entire time I was in the store during which l was the only person in the store and wandered around conspicuously, none of the staff spoke to me or approached me. Normally that wouldn’t bother me but the store is not large and I know they saw me because one of the staff looked up when I came in and I made several circuits through. In terms of merchandise they had a beautiful Restoration Hardware sofa that was in great condition and surprisingly not massive, I would’ve snatched up in a minute if I was in the market for a sofa. So there are some great finds. Maybe next time I’ll have...
Read moreHorrible. Any 'nice merchandise' aside..... IMHO... the integrity of this store... is....just as I say... horrible...... I started out buying quite a few things...but could not continue supporting them when an employee HUNG UP ON ME for absolutely no good reason.....and bad as that was, when I call the owners, explained what happened, that I only wanted an 'apology' for the employee... one of the owners said "oh, I couldn't ask him to do THAT.: (!!!!!! ) obviously THE problem was not with the 'employee'...but 'at the top'.......... just... un...
