Draper James — Local services in Nashville-Davidson

My family and I visit Nashville often--some 6 times a year--and we always stop by Draper James for gifts for my mom, sister and niece. I recently visited the store on 09/10/23 and made a large purchase. Because I live out of state, I made it a point to ask if the items I was purchasing were going to go on sale soon. I asked this of the young lady at the register and she said she didn't think so, but checked with her manager to make sure. I spoke to the manager (tall, thin blond woman who wore her hair up) and posed the same question to her. The store manager reassured me that the items I was purchasing would not go on sale anytime soon. She told me that she did not expect the items to go on sale until the end of the fall season. I made my purchase with this advice and reassurance from the store manager. Less than one week later, ALL of these items were 25% off! When I reached out to Draper James' customer service department, they refused to give me the benefit of the sale. They said their store policy is to NOT make price adjustments on previous purchases. I would understand and respect this policy IF the items went on sale 2 weeks later or a month later. In my case, the items were marked down within only 7 days of my purchase. Also, I feel like I was misled by the store clerk and manager becuase I asked about this very issue and was told that the items would not go on sale anytime soon. This makes me feel like I was lied to--like I was purposely deceived. It leaves me with a very sour feeling about Draper James. I will not shop there again and I would caution other consumers from purchasing ANY merchandise from the store at full price. Buyers Beware! Don't purchase anything at Draper James at full price. If this review was solely on the store I visited in Nashville, I would rate it a 4 or 5. The store is very quaint and the staff is friendly, but it is pretty expensive. I visited in May and bought the Elliston Floral Caroline Tote which was almost $250 dollars. When I went to check out there was no option to purchase a warranty or anything equal to that. The very helpful employee named Elise assured me though that if something abnormal would happen to it they would take care of me. They are very helpful when you are spending your money, not so much afterwards. I have used this purse a total of maybe 2 weeks non consecutively and when not being used, it sits in the dust bag. I pulled it out this past weekend and when placing it on my lap I felt something scratch my leg. The piping on 2 out of the 4 corners have come through the bottom. When reaching out to customer service about the issue, I was told that they no longer carry my purse and they cannot fix mine. The only thing they can do for me is give me a $45 in house merchandise credit. If you have been on their site, you would know that outside of key chains, mittens and a few other small trinket items, nothing is $45 dollars or less and there is no way I would buy something expensive when my purse couldn't even last the summer with minimal use. I had the most wonderful shopping experience at Draper James. I just wanted to pop my head in to say "I went to the Reese Witherspoon store!" and never expected to come away a huge fan of the brand. As a plus sized woman who goes between XL, XXL, 1X and 2X based on the silhouette of an item, I have never been able to walk into a store and try on every single item I like. And not only that, but have the items fit well and look flattering. I greatly appreciated the full range of sizes provided in every item and a wide variety of silhouettes and types of clothes. So often plus sized clothing is cut to look like a potato sack, and so it was a great change of pace stopping in here.

Additionally, the sales associates were truly wonderful, helpful, and approachable with questions. From the floor associate, to the cashier, to the dressing room attendant every person answered my questions and made me feel welcomed. I can confidently say no other shop on 12 South was as welcoming as this place.
