We planned a trip to Nashville for a concert on 10/01/2025. After extensive searching online, I found the Gilmore. I chose this hotel after seeing the excellent reviews and the beautiful photos of the hotel. Having a highly rated, clean hotel is very important to me. ||The Gilmore was a great place to stay. Very cute, cozy, and incredibly CLEAN! The bed and pillows were so comfortable, I was sad to leave them! They even have a "pillow menu" where you can scan a QR code and choose different pillows. The staff were very welcoming and they have an option to text them if you need anything. There's a sign on the bathroom mirror that says if you forgot something, you can text them to get it. I texted them and asked if they had a toothbrush and got a toothbrush kit delivered to my room.||The room that we were in had a kitchen with a full refrigerator, two countertop stove eyes, a dishwasher, a knife block, and cabinets that were stocked with every sort of kitchenware you can imagine. Wine glasses, bottle opener, coffee cups, pots, pans, plates, silverware, etc. There was a Nespresso maker in the room with regular and decaf espresso pods as well as creamer and sweeteners. The bathroom had makeup remover wipes and a pack with cotton rounds and cotton swabs.||The room had its own thermostat so we could adjust it anytime to our comfort. There was a clock on the bedside table that had a wireless charger and it was also a sound machine with a lot of choices. We were also given a book full of coupons for businesses on 12 South.||The courtyard area was SO PRETTY! The rooftop terrace was nice and relaxing. They had a poetry reading on Thursday. Although we didn't get to attend, I thought that was cool.||I loved that the parking garage was easy to spot with signs to let you know where to go. My only complaint about it is the high price to park in the parking garage. With the hotel discount, it was still $58 and something for two nights. Maybe the garage is city owned but if the hotel owns it, I feel like the parking should be complimentary considering you're paying hundreds of dollars to stay at the hotel already. Street parking is available but good luck finding a spot, and if you can't parallel park (like me), it's not really an option.||I also felt slightly misled by the idea of the balcony. I thought there was going to be a nice view from the balcony, so I got a room with one. All you see (in a number 200 room) from the balcony is a house across from you, houses to the left, and you can look down and see the entrance to the parking garage. You can't smoke out there or anything like that (I don't smoke anyway), so I'm kinda confused about the purpose of having one. I guess just to stand out there? I don't know. ||Overall, it was a great stay. Great bed and pillows, very clean (no bugs, I always check lol), comfortable, great amenities, and a nice location away from the craziness of Broadway. Read moreThe Gilmore is visually stunning—boutique charm, clean modern lines, and a prime location in the heart of 12 South. The potential for a 5-star experience is absolutely there. Unfortunately, my own stay left me feeling more overlooked than impressed.
I arrived late, but with my digital key ready. I still chose to stop at the front desk to be courteous. The staff member barely greeted me before rattling off a list of questions that felt more like an interrogation than hospitality: “Did you get your door code?” “What floor?” “What room?” It was jarring. I couldn’t help but wonder—if I looked different, sounded different, would I have been received the same way?
While not overt, that first impression lingered. Throughout my stay, I encountered several moments of inconsistency:
I wasn’t given the welcome basket I’d seen mentioned in reviews—only to see them being assembled at checkout.
Complimentary beverages, local maps, and a discount passport were never mentioned until my second night.
Housekeeping knocked twice despite a clearly displayed Do Not Disturb sign.
A persistent dripping sound and noise from neighboring rooms made it hard to sleep.
I paid for a vending machine soda, only to be told later that drinks were free for guests.
On the flip side, Vanessa at the front desk was a bright spot. Warm, informative, and exactly the kind of energy you hope for when staying at a boutique hotel. She made the effort—and that mattered.
The room itself? Beautiful and functional. Like a mini apartment. I appreciated the layout, the cleanliness, and the thought put into the design. But the disconnect between what’s promised online and what’s actually offered—or to whom—dampened the experience.
This property could easily be a standout. But consistency and cultural attentiveness matter. Hospitality is more than aesthetics—it’s how you make...
Read moreWe stayed at a new hotel in the 12 South neighborhood of Nashville. The neighborhood reminded me a lot of the Cooper Young area of Memphis, a mix of residential and mostly small businesses. I picked the hotel on a whim because my medical appointment at Vanderbilt got changed last minute. Due to events happening in and around Nashville there were not many rooms available for the night we needed. I found this one by happenstance, just browsing the map in that area.
It’s a brand new hotel. They actually had their grand opening while we were there. It’s pretty automated so you do not need to stop by the front desk at check in and check out. They message you the day of your reservation with your room number and unlock code. You just go on up to your room. The front desk staff is there, and very helpful if you have any needs or concerns.
The hotel itself is beautiful, and you can tell a lot of thought went into it. We stayed in a king balcony room. Each room has a full size fridge, a hot plate, utensils, microwave, and DISHWASHER! The bed was super cozy and bathroom is a great size and not a tiny closet. They provided complimentary bottled water on our arrival, and there were plush bathrobes in our room. I did not get very many pictures- and none in our room. But I will share the few I did take.
The service was great. All the employees were incredibly kind and helpful, and ready to serve you (which threw me off as a Memphis girl lol). Overall, a really great stay and I know we will be back again for our various appointments at Vanderbilt. If you’re ever in Nashville- check it out y’all. The neighborhood is super walkable too. Once we parked on arrival (did I mention the hotel has their own parking garage?) we didn’t get back into the car...
