If Santa Claus opened a restaurant, The Butter Milk Ranch would be it. Nestled on 12th Ave South in Nashville, this place doesnât just serve foodâit serves full-blown holiday joy with a side of âwow, my life is better now!â From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by a scene straight out of a holiday storybook. The exterior? A dazzling display of candy canes, gingerbread-inspired touches, and enough sparkle to make our internal Clark Griswolds jealous.
And thatâs just the outside!
Inside, The Butter Milk Ranch transforms into a wonderland of holiday cheer. Imagine gingerbread houses brought to life, oversized candy canes, and festive lights so vibrant they outshine even the boldest Christmas sweater. The handmade decorations are a testament to the teamâs creativity and careâthey donât buy holiday magic, they build it.
The colorful lighting, warm wood accents, and whimsical details make the space cozy yet lively, like Santaâs workshop if he swapped toys for waffles (and in all transparency, we approve). Every inch of the restaurant feels intentional, thoughtful, and over-the-top in the best possible way.
The staff here? Absolute rock stars. Jessica and Noel, our servers, werenât just fantasticâthey were like culinary tour guides, steering us through the menu with energy and expertise. They knew every detail about every dish, and their enthusiasm was contagious.
And then thereâs Jen, the manager. We HAD to flag her down to say, âLook, youâre absolutely crushing it.â The whole operation runs like a well-oiled sleigh, and the staff worked together like elves on Christmas Eveâbusy, happy, and making magic happen.
Now for the main event: the food. The Butter Milk Ranch doesnât just serve mealsâthey serve unforgettable experiences on a plate. Each dish is a masterpiece, making it nearly impossible to choose. Hereâs what made it to our table:
Lilâ Deborah Cookie Massive. Moist. Nutty. Creamy. This cookie is a showstopper. We shared one and still didnât finish itâbut trust me, we tried.
Corned Beef Hash Skillet Tender corned beef, perfectly crisp ranch potatoes, a kick of lacto hot sauce, smoky bourbon barrel smoked paprika, and sunny-side-up eggs. Itâs like breakfast went to culinary school and graduated with honors.
Crispy Pork Belly This pork belly deserves a standing ovation. Itâs savory, sweet, a little spicy, and absolutely life-changing. Hands down, my favorite bite of the day.
Lemon and Vanilla Waffle If happiness had a flavor, it would taste like this waffle. Fluffy, light, and topped with whipped salted caramel honey, fresh berries, and house-made granola. Every bite was a holiday miracle.
And hereâs the icing on the cookie: My wife has a gluten allergy (celiac), and the head chef (who also has one) ensures every gluten-free dish is prepared with the utmost care. My wife didnât just feel safeâshe felt celebrated.
The Butter Milk Ranch isnât just a restaurantâitâs an experience. From the festive ambiance and welcoming staff to the showstopping food, itâs a place that stays with you long after you leave. Whether youâre a Nashville local or just passing through, this spot is an absolute must.
So, go. Order the pork belly. Share a Lilâ Deborah Cookie (or donât). Soak in the holiday vibes. And prepare to leave happier...
Read moreThey don't serve Sweet Tea. I wish I had a picture of my lunch date's face when our server told her with a straight face; "We don't have sweet tea, but we have sugar packets." As. If. Please never tell another customer that. This is The South and the beloved Sweet Tea is sacred here. Also with the name Buttermilk Ranch I was really looking forward to a big, fat southern biscuit (one that would make Fortune Feimster proud.) Don't bring Fortune here, they don't have those coveted biscuits either. Now once I got past my initial shock and obvious disappointment I committed to fully enjoying myself because even though I was lured in there with the false hope of a fluffy biscuit there was a huge case full of delightful looking pastries that may (just may) make up for their lack of Southern Hospitality basics. My lunch date ordered everything - literally I swear and she was delighted mostly with the lemon curd that she found shockingly flavorful. She also did end up boxing up and taking home 90% of what she ordered because it was pretty tasty. I wouldn't know because she's my favorite carnivore and I'm here favorite vegetarian. I ordered the House Yogurt Parfait and I was shocked at how generous the portion was. This was a huge bowl and it was beautifully plated. I was a bit shocked that the yogurt was plain and unsweetened. Next time I will ask for a drizzle of honey because I think it needs a wee tad bit of sweetness but nevertheless is was delightful. I also ordered a side of scrambled eggs and a side of the house made vegan sausages. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the vegan sausage was delicious. The dining room was super crowded and very loud, but the staff was super friendly and the young man at the host stand was an absolute delight. But they don't serve sweet tea and they don't have fluffy biscuits. And that's OK because The South is known for its hospitality and we will embrace the new with a smile. But bless their hearts they don't have sweet tea so next time we might just bring our own Yeti...
Read moreLet me start out by saying, this place is extremely popular so be prepared for the wait. We had one of our friends still driving in from Indiana, so we were willing to wait, but we definitely had over a 75 minute wait. The wait was worth it, however. Also, you may miss this, but parking is not free. You must pay or you will be towed.
Now on to the restaurant...
This place was unique and nicely decorated. It's a bakery and a restaurant in one. The pastries displayed at the front looked mouth-watering đ€€ For brunch, I personally ordered the cube benny with bacon, but instead of the Eggs Benedict, I chose to have my eggs scrambled light. This open face croissant breakfast sandwich was very light, flakey, and flavorful. I do not regret my decision. I also had a blueberry lavendar mimosa. Lavendar mimosas are my jam ALWAYS, and this one did not disappoint whatsoever. So much so that I ordered a second. My friend ordered a round of brown butter beignets for the table as well. They were good, but definitely not my favorite item. On the way out, I snagged an almond croissant from the bakery area to eat the following day. It was delicious as well. I neglected to mention that I ordered a latte. If you've been reading these reviews, then you know I'm a latte lover, so this should be of no surprise. It was solid. Our waitress was named Jessica. She was very nice and patient with us as this was our very first time, and we had a lot of questions. Also, whoever was in charge of the music playlist did a phenomenal job. I just love a good brunch with good tunes playing in the background. Great experience. Would definitely return.
Edit: I neglected to mention that my friend from Indiana is vegetarian and was able to find good options to suit her just in case anyone was in search for...
