Sadly after several years of membership, I have finally been so worn out by staff that I am leaving the YMCA because I feel the predominantly white staff is culturally insensitive, and the implicit bias is reducing the experiences I am having there. My child has been in piano for two years and after his instructor left he was not adjusting to the new instructor who is making no effort to connect with him.
I love the YMCA and the fun we used to have there, but the inability to retain talented staff that is willing to forge trusting relationships has deteriorated my sense of belonging. I do not feel that staff cares they lost me as a member, and I suppose its money saved for us. I have found other places that offer the same classes. These situations are truly a reflection of poorly trained untrustworthy staff, and though my family has shouldered a very negative experience, I worry about shady people having access to my records on file and what an unethical person could potentially do with my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy daughter loves the art classes available and the teachers are great! Theres three different pools and a fun slide for the kids and youth nights which is great for a parent like me who is uncomfortable just dropping kids off alone to play during normal hours. Staff has always been wonderful to us as well. The reason for giving only 4 stars is the one way street in front and street parking is for seniors/handicap only. The parking lot is across the street and its dangerous for kids trying to cross the street even with the crosswalk because cars cant see the kids crossing until they're already in the middle of the street. Maybe they could install a pedestrian crossing yield light? Also that the pools are often closed without warning. There have been times I have called to double check open swim hours and verify the pools are open that day before we leave the house and by the time we get there (which only takes 10mins) the pools have...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe child care and Corp office tried to demand a court order to get paperwork in regard to my own child care contract. This is in violation of their policies and I had to argue and very nearly filed legal suit against them. They charged us for daycare that we never received during a natural disaster and refuse to allow vacation stops for payment or anything else. They just keep charging money. And as there isnt any other after school option for daycare, only choice is bend over and take it or not have daycare for my child. Real jerks in the Corp offices. On the plus side though, the actual daycare teachers and after school people are sweet and attentive and wonderful people for my child...
