My fiance and I chosen the Riverwalk in December 2015. They had just announced that they will be converted into a Hilton Double Tree - By September 2016. Our wedding day is 5/20/17.
My fiance and I were so excited about the plans. We were given the new floor plans, the paint, flooring and lighting plans. Everything was going to look awesome.
Renovation plans began to be delayed... We knew this was at no fault to our coordinator Leah and we understood.
Fast forward to 01/10/2017... I had an email correspondence with Leah... Questioning the renovations concerned that my guests will be affected, we were concerned about the guests being in a construction zone. We were reassured that there would be no renovations interfering with our guests. The ballroom was completed, the floor in which our guests were staying was just finishing up. If there were any additional renovations they would not be affecting our guests.
We met in February to discuss day of plans. No mention of renovations by Leah our coordinator, aside from there will be no interference with guests. I sent her our head count in April ... No mention from Leah about renovations.
May 3, 2017... 17 days before my wedding day I receive a call/text from 3 of our out of state guests that they received a cancellation notice from the hotel due to closure for construction. I was in disbelief.
I called the hotel and was directed to the general manager. She explained they were closing doors starting 5/15- mid July. We are still able to use the Ball Room, but guests are being relocated to Appleton Holiday Inn and will be shuttled to the Riverwalk.
I then spoke with Leah and expressed all of my concerns ... She agreed to schedule a meeting to let us view the Appleton holiday Inn ballroom.
We show up and we are told we can keep our current reservation at the Riverwalk hotel, but the entire lobby will be torn apart - our guests will have to enter through a side enterance off the ally on the side of the hotel. No handicapped accessible enterance.. so they will have to build us a ramp.... The bar, eatery, and all rooms will be shut down..our hall and some bathrooms will be the only rooms usable in the hotel.
Well our decision has been made for us. We will not have our reception in the middle of a construction zone.
The room at Holiday Inn is smaller, there are no upgraded suites available for our guests. They offered our guests a discounted rate for rooms, and breakfast coupons. Nothing offer to us for displacing our entire wedding. When we asked if we can also have accommodations... Our request for a discount was shot down.
They offered things that had no value in our package. The value of their counter offer was minimal, and not being made off the new hall that we were not moving to but the hall we signed our contract for. We were met with push back and alittle attitude for not being happy.
Our entire wedding was being turned upside down less than a month before. It was nothing what we wanted, not the location we wanted... Everything was being taken away from us.
In the end we decided to cancel the reception, there was a pure lack of empathy and compassion. You can say the words "we understand" "we are sorry" " what can we do to help" but the tone sets the bar. It was not at all sincere. Actions speak louder than words.
Upon our cancelation we were able to be accommodated by another venue. They treated the situation with the urgency necessary to take the stress off my fiance and I. If we were met with the same courtesy from Riverwalk we would have been more understanding.
Upon moving and calling many venues in the area explaining our last minute urgent situation, it was discovered once I released the name of the Riverwalk... We are not the first wedding that has been displaced last minute. I can not prove that this happened to others. But I can say based on the reaction from the other venues we are not the first, and are for sure...
Read moreI'm just gonna list off the room amenities so you can decide what you wanna bring when staying; Keep in mind I'm not a big shot so this is just what's in the smaller cheaper rooms -
Pillows: The soft and fluffy kind that you instantly sink into. Not noisy at all. They're good, but bring a firmer pillow if that's your thing.
Bathroom: Comes with a little bottle of shampoo, tiny conditioner, body lotion, makeup remover wipes, and a bar of face soap.
Mini-Kitchen: My room had just a microwave and minifridge. There's a kuerig in here too, but I would honestly use the one in the lobby instead.
TV: Wall-mounted RCA Flatscreen with basic channels. No DVD player or Netflix, but it's got one HDMI port and analog hookups for composite, component, and PC-RGB. You can change the aspect ratio from 16:9 to 4:3 if you wanted to bring your PS2 or N64 or whatever.
Internet: Free wifi but don't think you have to sign up and give your personal details to connect when it tells you about Hilton Honors. You can still use the internet if you choose the option at the bottom of the sign up page.
Alarm Clock: Not sure if they all have this but my room's alarm clock had a built-in USB charging port. Very handy.
Pool+Gym: There's totally a pool here. I forgot to bring my swim trunks so I couldn't go swimming. Don't be like me. Try the pool.
That's it! There's a pretty cool park near the water right across the street you can visit, and the public library is right next to that. Definitely worth a walk down there to check it out at least once.
[EDIT: I uh, didn't get any conditioner when I originally left this review and apparently the front desk just had some so waiting for me when I came back downstairs after writing this review so uh,,,, yeah if your room is missing something make sure you speak up before writing an entire Google review first. (´°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥ω°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥`) Shoutout to the Hilton hotel staff they're really nice and friendly and helpful even if I'm dumb....
Read moreFirst off I wanted to say the employees that I encountered at the front desk were all very nice. That was probably the only positive thing. I found it very weird that employees didn't have a uniform or matching attire, let alone not even a nametag with the Doubletree name with the employee name. I have been to other DoubleTree hotels and they all seemed to have matching attire with name tags. My friend and I (both females) felt weird coming out of our hotel room to see a guy in a flannel and jeans vacuuming. He was nice but how do we know who works there and who doesn't. Knowing he has access into rooms was an uneasy feeling. The worst part of the stay was the breakfast the next morning that we stumbled upon. We wanted to get on the road right away so we thought we would try it. $12.95 for a "buffet" that had minimal options. The options we did have, they seemed to cook very little (probably so they don't waste food which is understandable). The "employees" work in the morning buffet once again had normal very dressed down clothes on so we didn't even know they worked there until we asked them. One girl did not want to eat this breakfast and they stared at us the entire time while sitting at one of the tables. Everyone in the group felt very uncomfortable. When they gave us our check they had charged us for 4 meals which was wrong since only 3 of us ate. The moment we got our check the "main guy" walked out of the area (the only time they actually weren't staring at us) and disappeared after one of us said "sir" fairly loud. We asked the other lady to adjust our check since only 3 of us ate and she said she had to wait on that guy to come back because he was the only one that could do that. It took at least 15 minutes for someone to find him to adjust our check. Overall, I would not recommend this particular hotel which is disappointing because I usually love...
