New Haven Salad Shop is a good place to go if you are in the mood for a big salad with good toppings options. You choose a salad or a wrap and then either select a pre-conceived creation or create your own with the toppings of your choice. You choose which type of lettuce you'd like, four veggies, 2 "toppers," one cheese, one protein which is optional and costs 2 dollars extra, and one dressing. The ingredients here are generally fresh enough and there is a wide variety of different toppings options to choose from. I like the wraps better than the salads because they are a bit more filling and easier to eat.
The best veggies here are the carrots, red peppers, corn, celery, chick peas, broccoli, etc. The best toppers are jalapeno peppers, wasabi peas, and hard boiled egg. Tofu is the only vegetarian protein option and the tofu is usually a bit soft. The best wrap flavour is garlic and herb. The blue cheese dressing adds some much needed fat and flavour to the otherwise tame salads.
They also have Dirty Potato Chips if you want some unhealthiness with your salad.
Overall, this place is a great option for a quick semi-healthy bite. It is a little pricy for what it is, at 10+ dollars for a salad. It's still a great place to have in...
Read moreI have been ordering the TLSS for years and I've always been satisfied with the salads. Today, we ordered lunch at work and 2 of the five orders (create your own) were missing several toppings as well as the protein choices. We called and were told "it's human error, we're training new people" and a $13 refund was offered from a total of $87 spent. I can understand if toppings were unavailable in which case let the customer know and give the opportunity to select others but to not include them at all is unacceptable. Apparently no one is overseeing the "new people" and ensuring orders are correct. Completely disappointed. Will go elsewhere...
Read moreA tiny take out only shop. There is no place to sit, no WC. The salad is very good though, fresh, ample size, great mix of vegetables and lettuce, flat bread, dressings. The drink menu is very good as well.
The place is expensive, though. 12$ for a salad is a bit high. 6$ for a drink. But the food is healthy and tastes quite good.
Service was fast, but a line forms faster. Expect to wait. Service was terse, not friendly, but that might be the pressure of the line.
They is only street parking. The place is close to Yale, so there is lots of traffic. Order...
