This rating is unfortunate, as overall this hospital and ER have made enormous strides in improvement since Dennis Hernandez has taken over and Bert Fish was upgraded to AdventHealth. EVERY Er doctor, Riga, Taylor, Corbett, Rich, PAs Myers and Adams are amazing and this last ER visit, this past week, was like a well oiled machine. I would not trust my health with any other ER in this area. However, after being admitted to floor 3 the med surgical unit for oberservation, that all changed. As someone whose is rather young 41 with Esphogeal Cancer and rare autoimmune disorder, I expected to be consulted on my meds, as they are extensive, and if I had questions for them to be answered in a timely fashion. Again Dr. Heath the GI consultant was amazing, 100 stars if not more, but that was the only good aspect on the floor with the exception of the night nurse Heather. But like they say a bad egg ruin the dozen, and Emma and Debra, the day nurses were the worse communicators, did not rely my messages to the attending, acted as dictators, and when I asked to speak to the Nurse Leader, Alyssa, as per procedure, when there are unanswered questions or concerns; when she came in, at that exact time per the time stamp in Epic, both Debra and Emma went into the Epic system and wrote derogatory remarks in their nursing notes about me, clearly as retaliation for speaking to the nurse leader, as no other derogatory remarks were written prior. After I discharged, I called and asked the nurse leader to see about adding a addendum to those notes, as in the state of Florida the hospital has 60 days from the day of request to add an addendum as the patient is the owner of their medical records and can ask for an addendum, and I was point blank denied this right. A report is being made to the OCR under HHS, which handles compliants about being denied adding an addendum to medical notation within records and how this hospital has denied my right under HIPAA to facilitate this requested addendum. Although I love this hospital, this floor needs proper training and the nurses Emma and Debra need to be reprimanded and retrained or else their bad influences will rub off on the other phenomenonal staff that is employed there. Again, as someone who unfortunately has a lot of medical challenges and spend a lot of time at this hospital and the University of Miami, I can not in good faith recommend this hospitals med surgical floor, as concerns are not met, if you follow chain of command and advocate for your health needs you are retaliated against, and ultimately your health is jeopardize due to these nurses' miscommunication. So while its advantageous to use their ER, if you are every admitted to the 3rd floor, ask for another floor, if not, nurse Emma and Debra will ensure you leave that floor in a body bag. 150/5 stars for ER, and -10/5 stars for nurses Emma and Debra on the 3rd floor med...
Read moreMake sure you don't go here if you have an actual medical problem, they will probably misdiagnose it or accuse you of being an addict. 15 months ago they ignored symptoms that have now caused 2 terminal incurrable brain diseases. They kept calling it "long covid" which does not exist. Had to go to the hospital this week due to said diseases and they had the audacity to send in the nurse practitioner to question if we were just looking for a handout when all that was asked for were fluids because of being severly dehydrated from vomiting non stop. People die daily due to lack of medical help and your ER staff is clearly part of that problem. Do better and DO YOUR JOB
Update 3/11/2025 After admitting to MISDIAGNOSING 1 of these terminal brain diseases and then saying it may actually be cancer, they proceeded to basically hold my sister hostage for 2 days while refusing to give her seizure medication that is PRESCRIBED to her. This caused her to start having a focal seizure while the nurses LITERALLY LAUGHED ABOUT IT! They refused to let her speak to the charge nurse Shelly and the charge nurse herself refused to speak to her because she's too lazy and busy sitting on her ass doing nothing. She told another nurse to go in and tell my sister "I have no idea why you don't have medication" instead of doing it herself. Is medication compliance not a thing you guys teach? My sister had to send a video recording of them actively refusing to help and do their job before she got any result. Not too long after they then send in SECURITY and say it's a felony to record someone without them knowing, proceed to force her to delete the video while no one is around, and then make her leave. Have you guys ever heard of MEDICAL MALPRACTICE because you just committed every aspect of the definition and then only actually cared when there was video proof of your employees breaking the law and not doing their jobs? If you think this is the last you've heard from me, you are SADLY mistaken. The amount of misinformation, mishandling, and medical malpractice over the last 2 years is ASTONISHING. You want to play with people's lives and then laugh about it while in the field of medicine. You should be DISGUSTED...
Read moreLong story short my mom went to the hospital on 01/02 for high blood pressure upon arrival her blood pressure was 191 over 120s. Her test came back normal they sent her home with a blood pressure medicine. The following day while on the blood pressure medicine her blood pressure spiked up to 180 over 120s so she went back to the hospital and upon arrival her blood pressure was 204 over 120. Dr John that worked the ER Department that night said that it was anxiety fed her a Xanax and sent her home mind you her blood pressure did come down a little bit on the Xanax and he was supposed to send in a script that got her to her appointment on Tuesday it was a very low dose Xanax my mother does not suffer from anxiety of any kind so I thought it was BS to begin with but whatever lowered her blood pressure in the meantime fast forward to the next day there was no prescription sent to the pharmacy. Doctors have an obligation to their parents before sending them home to ensure they will not go home and have a medical crisis. My mom felt stupid laying in that bed and now she refuses to seek any further treatment because of Dr John. It is people like you who fail our health care System. I spoke to the director of nursing at a facility that I work at and she absolutely assured me that they should have got her blood pressure under control before they sent her home and instead they did the exact opposite so if something happens to my mom this is the warning I will be seeking legal action immediately because you were so worried about pushing her out the door then worrying about her health. How can you even call yourself a doctor when you took an oath to help people...
