Overall our move in experience at 160 Trump Place was problematic:
Firstly, we were pressed by the leasing office to start our lease on March 26 (a questionable action by the leasing office since from Day 1 of our apartment search at Trump Place, we clearly stated that our desired start date was April 15th - the leasing office retorted that many Manhattan apartment dwellers paid dual rents before taking possession of their apartments!)...
But also as we were being pressured to take immediate possession of the apartment, it is subsequently clear that the apartment WAS NOT fully ready for occupancy for the compromised move in date pressed upon us: April 1. Unresolved problems (as of this date- April 8th) include no blinds in living room (which were promised before our move in date), repeated peeling of bathroom vanity caulking (resulting in having to ask for a 3rd recaulking of same bathroom area: this has been complicated as of this date by surly maintenance staff (4/8/16) who acted too flippant and disrespectful for the amount of rent being paid and twice having failed previously to handle the problem); and questionable sales tactics by the leasing office regarding the parking garage fee - we were told by the leasing agent that we would be able to pay THE SAME parking rate as we are currently paying ($375/month): When I called the Quik Parking Garage sales office regarding securing a monthly parking spot, I was immediately rebuffed in the notion of paying $375/month and negotiated a rate of $400/month...BUT when bringing my car to the 160 Trump Place garage, the parking manager told me that I would most likely have to have to pay a rate of $465/month!
...My wife and I were warned to be careful when dealing with Equity regarding their Trump Place buildings - and sadly, we have found much to make us wary...But to be balanced in this review - the plus side of living at Trump Place is the front desk staff and doormen who are helpful and cheerful, in particular Walter, Willie, Singh and Sophia; as well as excellent maintenance guy - Raphael. As first stated, our move in experience has been problematic...Proceed...
Read moreI’ve lived at 160 for over 16 months. During the first year, there was some construction, but it was manageable. That all changed in the last 2–3 months. The building has turned into a nonstop construction zone, with loud, disruptive work happening almost every day in different parts of the property.
The elevators are constantly out of service. Access is frequently blocked due to floor work. And now, they’ve planned an entire month of roof demolition — the noise is so intense and relentless, I literally can’t stay in my own home. I work remotely, and it’s been incredibly stressful trying to hold meetings or concentrate while jackhammers echo through my apartment.
What makes it worse is management’s response. Their only suggestion has been to use the shared workspace downstairs, which just isn’t a real solution. It's small, limited, and doesn’t meet the needs of people who are working full-time from home.
I pay nearly $6,100 a month in rent. That’s a premium price — and yet, what I’ve experienced lately is far from a premium living experience. It’s been exhausting.
Even when there’s no construction, noise is a major issue. If your apartment faces the Hudson River side, the constant sound of highway traffic means you’ll need to run the fan or AC all night just to get some sleep. And ironically, the quieter the city gets, the worse the noise feels.
This has taken a real toll on my well-being. I urge anyone considering moving here to think twice. You deserve to feel at peace in your home — not like you’re living in a construction site.
I have attached a video as an example of what I have been hearing from 9am today till now!
More updates: Just added a new video (Sep 11th 2025). Do the maths about how long the roof work has taken and see if this is where you want...
Read moreI enjoyed my first year living here but the building has significantly gone downhill since A&E bought it from Equity Residential. I would only pay attention to recent reviews from the last year.
Below are some things to keep in mind before signing a lease: a
Very disorganized management. Management communication is very bad. We had an unauthorized entry into our apartment. Management never told us why there were random contractors (not the building staff) in our apartment without notice or our permission.
Elevators are constantly broken. do not live in the south or north tower apartments (higher floors). You will have access to one elevator (if any) and these will already be busy.
Construction a lot of people have and will move out of this building because it’s so poorly managed. A&E is renovating all of the empty units, in addition to shared spaces (instead of replacing the constantly breaking elevators). You will hear construction constantly when you move in no matter where you are in the building. The construction workers also use the limited elevators.
Reoccurring water shutdowns. They shut down the building’s water at least once a month. The communication is very bad around it (e.g. they will tell you the shut down is happening on a Tuesday, and then shut it off on Wednesday… or not communicate is at all).
extra charges on top of rent. you pay an extra $100 or so monthly for water and other random utilities on top of your rent.
roaches/indoor smokers We experienced both in our last year here.
The units are spacious, staff are friendly, and location is nice — but I would choose...
