Amtrak — Local services in New York

Service quality has declined significantly over the past 4 years. In 2021, I’ve taken several business class trips and found people in my reserved space. Yesterday (Nov 7, 2025) on the 651 Keystone service train (4:03 pm departure) from NY to Philadelphia, none of the agents upstairs were able to relay basic information. The Amtrak waiting area in NY Penn Station also smelled like pot. While purchasing a ticket in the app and getting ready to board, the platform conductor was arguing with me, more concerned about whether or not I had a ticket rather than answering my question about whether or not I was about to board the right train. Got on the Amtrak in Buffalo after crossing into the USA from Canada. Spent 9 hours travelling to New York City with my wife and friends. Great way to travel & see America's back garden. We travelled through Rochester , Amsterdam, Albany, Yonkers and along the Hudson river etc. Bit disappointed that the train didn't have a double decker viewing carriage but thats me setting my expectations to high. Seats were comfy, train was clean, cafe car was average, conductor was rude & snappy. She really let Amtrak down. Great way to travel. All 4 in our party agreed it was the highlight of our 10 day trip....
