Do not open a Capital One checking or savings account until you read this: My daughter started her first job, and my wife helped her open a Capital One checking account to assist with her finances. The card arrived, and direct deposit was set up. However, when the card didn't work, we encountered continuous "verification" issues. Together, my wife and daughter called six times, talking to numerous representatives and even their "manager", and interacted with the verification department. They provided their names, card information, Social Security number, birthdate, address, phone number, sent a picture of the license, and an email address, through which they received a link to verify their details. Still, they could not verify the account. After an hour and a half and for the twelfth time speaking to different people, it was stated that verification had to be in person at a Capital One location, which is four hours away. Consequently, my daughter's first paycheck of $124.00 is now inaccessible.
What is frustrating is that my wife is already associated with the account and possesses other Capital One cards. You would think her phone number would suffice for verification. Furthermore, they had a link through my daughter’s email. We are discussing sensitive information like birthdate, Social Security number, and a picture of her license that she provided during a phone call. Typically, you can activate a debit card over the phone with a 1-800 number, providing the card number, expiration date, 3-digit code, and last four digits of your Social Security number.
I advise against opening a Capital One checking or savings account. It is incredibly distressing that they cannot devise a straightforward solution to this issue, other than requiring us to drive four hours to present a driver’s license and Social Security card in person. The customer service representatives seem scripted and offer no real solutions. It has been a total...
Read moreI have been doing business with capital one a long time. I believe my first car loan was from capital one. I currently have 2 credit cards there. Today I tried applying for a 3rd card. I've been building up my credit for years. I pay all my bills on time & have a score of 740. Yet today I was declined for the card I applied for. I applied to increase my credit total amount & to build up my credit further. Instead I get declined with a hard inquiry for absolutely nothing. I have full time employment with a steady paycheck. After this instance I'll never attempt to open another account at capital one again. No personal loans no more credit cards no bank account no car loan nothing. Ill just spend little on the 2 cards I have and pay them off each month. I'll also be talking to family members about this instance. I worked very hard to build up my credit. I'm fairly confident I could have gotten a new card anywhere else. Now I need to wait 2 years until this hard inquiry is off my report to apply at a different credit institution. If there are rules against or issues getting more than 2 cards . Then it should be listed on my profile on my account to avoid issues like this. I'm sure it doesn't matter to anyone making big $ every year. But to the working class which makes up most of the population. Credit scores make a big difference in doing almost anything. So anyway thanks again for the hard inquiry for nothing. Ill make sure I pay my cards off and spend minimal amounts to keep my accounts. Thanks anyway though guess I learned my lesson today. If you have more than 1 card at a credit institution. Don't apply for another one as far as I can see there's no other reason to decline my...
Read moreI hav3e ben a customer of Capital one for the last 6 myears & in the begginning it was fine with no account fees etc... However, it started closing down quite a few of it's brancehes & of course they were all in the African American communities. Now their process for getting a new bank card takes so long that the free account is just not worth it. If it's an expedited card it take 7 business day to receive it after being told 2-3 business days by the customer service . You must request an english speaking representative if you only speak english because the Customer service dept. has been shipped out of the U.S. I have had several encounters where there was fraudulent activity & notified from the bank. the process is if deny the Transaction my debit card is automatically shut down & because of the number of times this has happened & thew length of time it takes a new card to arrive this last fraudulent transaction I was willing to let it go rather that jhave my card shut down & they srill shut my card down & informed me that if I want to use my card I would have to call to get approval. I Have to get approval to get my money! that sounds like this bank does not recognize that it's my money that"s in their bank. So, I will be closing out both accounts over the weekend as I suggest anyone in the New York area to do the same as the bank card processing center is in new hampshire & you can no longer go to a branch & get a new debit card. Capital one custoimer service people do npot understand that this technological age does not allow you to have to be without your bank card for 7 days. So, to all Capital One Customers in the New york State...
