We arrived to this Hotel from JFK airport via Uber. The first thing that hit me was the bland, unimpressive lobby. The staff gave me a nice welcome, and a huge unexpected list of extra charges. $60 per day Hotel Fee, $5.33 Per day NY Sales tax, $26.44 per day NY State Sales Tax, $2 per day NYC Occupancy tax, and $1.50 per day NY state Javits Occupancy Tax. Total extra charges per day were $95.27 but these charges fluctuated daily so it was sometimes even higher. So I had to pay an unexpected $400+ on arrival. I have stayed in New York on 5 other occasions and understand the extra charges, but this hotel has the highest extra charges in NY. They say it is for Wifi and Breakfast, but the breakfast is cheap and bland, and the Wifi is slow. We stayed in an Executive Studio, It looked spacious online, but is quiet cramped. The furniture is old, tired and damaged. The bathroom is large for New York, and is the rooms best feature. But the sliding door leaves large gap, so if you have company, you better sing when going to the loo!! I complained 3 times about the loudness of the aircon, and was told it was the air refresher making the noise, not the ac. They explained it is louder in some rooms. I said it is like being on an aircraft, I asked for a new room but never got one. The staff smile and give their trained responses, and you end up wishing they would just shut up. They see you coming and hit you with an instant compliment every time, because they are trying to disarm you, as they know a complaint is coming. Like “Hi Love your awesome sneakers’ Or ‘ Wow love you sunglasses’. I felt like flipping but deep breaths were taken!! No offer of compensation for the noise was given. I will never stay in this hotel again, and recommend you go elsewhere, unless you like aircraft noises!

Hotel is located a couple of blocks from Rockefeller center, Grand Central, Saks Fifth Ave. and St. Patrick's Cathedral, it has a second floor lounge, computer rooms and a first floor restaurant. I reserved one of the top floor suites (19th floor) to celebrate our anniversary and the front desk was nice enough to give us an upgrade to one of the main suites in the top floor, the rooms have great views of the surrounding buildings, I told the front desk that we were celebrating our anniversary and they surprised us with bottle of wine and a beautiful note from the hotel management. Our room was one of the corner ones, we had great views all around, we had a private room with a King bed plus a living room with a couch, lounge chair, two tvs, one in our bedroom and on the living room, our bathroom was just beautiful, white tiles and flooring, great lighting, (specially for the ladies, the mirror had its own lights, perfect for makeup.) There's complimentary water but they also have a minibar, a coffee maker and a wall with a variety of wines. We were really please with the service, from beginning to end, service was great, specially the day that we arrived, from the gentleman at the front desk to the lady opening and closing the door, to the service staff, everyone was very polite, helpful and made feel welcome. We didn't get to enjoy the breakfast. At night we wanted romantic venue so we asked the young men at the front desk suggested a couple of romantic restaurants nearby and his suggestions were on point. Overall, we were very pleased with this hotel, starting with the location, the staff's service and the room, the room with a view.

As written on Tripadvisor,

The hotel’s location and soundproofing are decent, and the view can be nice, but only if you’re on the upper floors. However, we had to request a room change to the upper floor to meet the standards of what we paid for—a room with a view. Even then, the new room was not much cleaner and far from what we expected. The size of the room was disappointing, and it was definitely not suitable for three people. Despite the listing, there was no real “living area,” and the overall space felt cramped.

When we arrived at 11:30 PM, the first room we were assigned wasn’t clean or ready. The light above the bed was broken, there were peanuts in the bed, and the cleaning staff was unfriendly. Even in the new room, the cleanliness was shocking—there was a thick layer of dust on the headboard and stains all over the carpet. On top of that, basic amenities like coffee pods and towels, which should be replaced daily, were only provided if we asked, (which we had to do, every single day). We even had to request for our room to be cleaned, daily. And the shower gel wasn’t even full when we arrived, luckily for us, we came with our own.

The listing was extremely misleading. The suite was much smaller than advertised, the bed too small to be comfortable, and the kitchen wasn’t equipped with any utensils, plates, or the basics needed to prepare a meal. We also weren’t aware there was a lounge or gym on-site, as there was no communication about these amenities when we arrived. Adding to the disappointment was the so-called “breakfast included,” which was actually just a $25 credit per room. Given the overpriced restaurant, it’s impossible to have a proper meal for $25 unless you’re dining alone. After spending so much on the hotel itself, this “credit” felt like a scam, and only used once.

The hidden fees were another unpleasant surprise. The “hotel fees” added at the end of our stay were extremely confusing and. These fees significantly increased the total cost, making the already overpriced stay feel even more like a rip-off. For the quality of service and the state of the facilities, these fees are unjustifiable and should be made clear upfront.

What’s most disappointing is that these same issues have been raised in reviews going back two years. It’s clear that management has not taken any steps to address recurring problems, which shows a lack of care for the guest experience.

The only saving grace of the hotel was the hostess, Lena. She was incredibly welcoming and helpful, and her professionalism stood out.

This hotel has potential but desperately needs better management. The cleaning staff should be trained to meet basic standards, and maintenance needs to be a priority to address the broken fixtures and overall cleanliness. Listings should be updated to reflect the reality of the rooms, and amenities should be consistently provided without guests having to ask. Until these changes are made, it’s hard to imagine recommending or returning...

Hidden fees, varying levels of service from staff/hotel, and broken elevator/wifi.

Long story short: Overall, while I liked the room, all of the extra junk we had to deal with for a "nice hotel" just wasn't worth the headache and worry. When my wife and I were out and about, we would dread coming back to the hotel at the end of the night; which is wild to think about considering that NYC is kind of crazy and smells like urine... I will not be back to this hotel, and I would not recommend anybody I know to stay here.

If you are booking this hotel, be warned there are additional fees that you cannot avoid and cannot be refunded for. They charge an additional $57 per night for the use of hotel amenities, breakfast, and a $25 credit for the hotel restaurant. This was majorly inconvenient because 1) the breakfast the hotel offers can be hit or miss, 2) The hotel restaurant doesn't have the most impressive reviews and if I'm visiting NYC I want to go to better places to eat, and 3) if I have no interest in these additional amenities, I should not have to pay a couple hundred dollars on top of the money I had already paid to book the room a week earlier.

Also, you will have to pay about $100 fee per night of your stay in addition to the amenity fees for the room (in case something gets damaged in the room) and when we checked in we were never told this would be later refunded to us. The first two days of our trip were heavily dampened because we're suddenly told, after having already booked our room, that we now have to pay an additional $500 in random fees. We finally asked the front desk worker, Rachel (who was an excellent point of contact throughout our entire trip, thankfully!), about the non-amenity fees, and she assured us that $100 per night should be refunded after our stay assuming we didn't damage the room. While I appreciate knowing that now, I just wish we had been told that at the beginning of our stay.

Now, the rooms were nice. Really nice. I had no issues with the rooms at all. There was one day where nobody came to clean our room, which my wife didn't like, but I personally don't care too much as long as it's not multiple days in a row.

Wifi: I had no clue wifi could be so annoying to connect to. The check-in worker even gave us an access code, and I typed that thing in forwards, backwards, capitalized, un-capitalized, spanish, german, everything, and could not connect to the stupid wifi. I just used my data the entire trip.

Finally, the cherry on top was that of the two elevators in this 20+ story hotel, one of them broke on the last day. So waiting and riding an elevator took an insanely long amount of time.

Overall, while I liked the room, all of the extra junk we had to deal with for a "nice hotel" just wasn't worth the headache and worry. I will not be back, and I would not recommend anybody I know...

Would most definitely not recommend this hotel. Although the room was a good size everything else not an I truly not up to standard and I don’t understand how this hotel is classed as a 4 star hotel with the scam they seem to be operating and having every customer upset with these charges.

Be prepared to be charge 50$ plus tax PER NIGHT even though you have already paid for the room. They will tell you it’s disclosed all over their website which is true however if you book through and agency like last minute.com it is not disclosed anywhere. Furthermore I have never in my life had to pay a hotel fee for basic hotel services ? Why is it simply not included in the price. When I questioned this with the receptionist Rachel she said every hotel in New York does this. It is completely untrue as we stayed at the Sanctuary hotel during the same trip and they didn’t charge us anything, when I informed her of this she seemed she didn’t have anything to say. Furthermore she kept insisting that she can’t check us in without this fee being paid.

The shower in our room did now have a hose and the water pressure was absolutely awful. The cleaning was merely okay, on multiple occasions our pillows had stains on them and the floor was visibly not hoovered which is not what you expect after paying additional charges for these types of services.

The breakfast they tell you about and give a 25$ credit is per room and NOT per person. Although when we were checking in Rachel was trying to justify the 50$ per night charge by telling us about this breakfast credit but failed to mentioned it was per room. As there were two of us we were shocked by the extra breakfast charges on our invoice at the end of our stay. The 25$ menu at the restaurant they give is actually not that price because in small print it says “plus tax and gratuity”. Why is gratuity being added automatically?

No matter how much your try to reason with them in regards to these extortionate out of the blue charges they will only say “sorry I understand your frustration but it is on out site”. It’s ridiculous and a literal scam we went without two of our other friends and they are just as shocked by the scam this hotel seems to operate. This whole situation we had to go through with this hotel has left in a lot of stress and I will be warning everyone against staying here. You are better off staying at the Sanctuary hotel which is about a 10 minute walk from this hotel it was much much better than this hotel and the breakfast is included without any extortionate out of the...
