I am a first time mother to a newborn who has had no time for self care in several months. I decided to book an appointment for a keratin treatment and much needed haircut and I was willing to pay a premium price to treat myself and feel beautiful.
I spent a total of 4 hours at the salon and left with my hair completely butchered by not one, but two of their stylists. Unfortunately, google will not allow me to post a photo so you can judge for yourself.
The stylists first mistake was not doing the haircut first. Instead, she chose to do the keratin treatment first. This took 3 hours! Why so long? I have no clue. Then, she proceeded to perform the haircut. I asked for a 2 inch max trim. My hair was extremely long, reaching most of the way down my back. I wanted to keep it long and made sure she understood this. She started cutting my hair dry! I have never experienced this. Her hair cutting technique showed me red flag after red flag but I kept my composure thinking that this is a reputable salon and surely she is an experienced stylist. After 45 minutes, she called over another stylist to ask him for help! She asked him questions like, how does this look? How can I fix the layers?
As soon as I saw the look on the second stylists face, I knew that she had butchered my hair. He started chopping away more inches in an attempt to fix it. At the end, I was never offered a mirror to see my hair from the back, and I had to rush out and leave to pick up my daughter from daycare before they closed. I was in the salon for 4 hours! They chopped off 5 inches of my hair and I was furious.
When I got home and looked in the mirror, I was shocked! I paid over $250 for the services I received and my hair was butchered. When I emailed customer service and asked a manager to contact me, they passed the buck to the receptionist who had no power in authorizing refunds or making decisions. What kind of management doesn’t take responsibility and has the receptionist call an upset customer? I finally got management to call me two days later and they still did not offer a full refund.
I went to a reputable experienced hair stylist at another salon a few days after this horrific experience to have my hair fixed and she could still smell the chemicals in my hair from Hair Bar. She told me that they did not give me a keratin treatment, but instead put a relaxer in my hair. My scalp started flaking and to this day I can still smell the chemicals over a month later.
I cannot say enough bad things about this business and my experience there. My beautiful long hair that I spent years growing is now damaged and I will have to regrow it. If you are willing to take the risk and have an inexperienced stylist treat and cut your hair, beware. You have...
Read moreI had a terrible experience at Hair Bar NYC on June 25th when I went in for a keratin treatment. I had high hopes based on the salon's reputation, but the results were extremely disappointing.
First, the stylist seemed inexperienced and rushed through the process. Instead of the smooth, sleek hair I was promised, my hair ended up frizzy and unevenly treated. It felt like they skipped crucial steps, and the application was clearly subpar.
The condition of my hair actually worsened after the treatment. It became dry and brittle, which is the opposite of what a keratin treatment is supposed to achieve. I’ve had keratin treatments before, so I know this isn’t normal.
When I expressed my concerns to the staff, they were unapologetic and unhelpful. They offered no solutions or compensation for the poor service. Instead, they seemed more interested in getting me out the door as quickly as possible.
Overall, my experience at Hair Bar NYC was extremely disappointing, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. The lack of professionalism, poor customer service, and unsatisfactory results have left me regretting my visit.
I had an extremely disappointing experience again at [Hair Bar NYC] on July 5th when I went back for a hair toner treatment. the same stylist who I had bad experience with before she was the one who changed my hair color and ruined everything I was expecting a subtle enhancement to my hair color, but what I got was a disaster.
The stylist applied the toner unevenly, resulting in patches of different shades all over my hair. Instead of achieving a smooth, blended look, my hair now has an unsightly and inconsistent color that looks terrible. The toner also left my hair feeling dry and damaged.
When I pointed out the issues to the staff, they were dismissive and unhelpful. They didn’t offer to fix the problem or provide any form of compensation. Their attitude made the whole experience even more frustrating and disappointing.
I regret choosing [Hair Bar NYC] for this treatment and wouldn’t recommend this salon to anyone. The poor application of the toner and the unprofessional handling of my concerns have left me extremely unhappy with...
Read moreMy review is solely based on the outcome of my Keratin treatment. I had my Keratin done 5 weeks ago. I have been doing Keratin treatments with Hair Bar since 2020. My keratin would always come out great and last at least 4 months. I have been to all the NYC locations. Soho, 3rd Ave, Midtown and Cedarhurst. The last couple of treatments I had only lasted a solid a month. I'm fully convinced something has changed in the product. The last stylist I went to in Cedarhurst I had no issues up until this last year. I know its not the stylist because I spend 3 hours with the stylist and she goes through every strand of my hair. In the past it has been excellent the treatment, no issues at all. My family would all come see this stylist. I decided maybe its the salon they are skimping on the product or something changed in the product. I decided to try Midtown. At Midtown I had a great stylist as well. Used around 3.5 oz of product and spent 3 hours on my hair going through it making sure its perfect. I was convinced this time around it would be perfect. It lasted all about two weeks and after it went downhill. I know for sure its not the stylist. Which leads me to believe something in the product has changed. I do not want to mention the stylist because they really did a meticulous job on ensuring I had enough product and spent a good amount of time ironing every strand. The stylist was lovely. Also, for the record after the treatment I do exactly as I am told and I use Keratin Complex Shampoo & Conditioner. Again my review is based on the Keratin treatment only. This is not towards the stylists or the staff. I found Hair Bar to be one of the best Keratin salons in NYC and very reasonably priced. I have recommended it to everyone I know, however, lately it has been very disappointing and not living up to what it once was. For this reason, I will not be returning...
