The food & ambiance were great! Gorgeous for the holidays! Service was TERRIBLE. Such a bummer because we were so excited to try this place. They also automatically added gratuity on our tab for 5 people (it says online that they only do that for parties of 6 or more).
Reservation was at 7. The table wasn’t ready until 7:15(Delays can happen on a busy Saturday in NYC. We understood & didn’t complain) As soon as we were seated we were told that they would need the table back in 2 hours (also would have been fine if the service wasn’t so slow). We were in great spirits as we were celebrating a birthday. Our server wasn’t very friendly from the start. Every round of drinks took 20 mins or more to arrive- Understood its not the server’s fault when the bar gets backed up, but she could have been more attentive & reassured us they were still on the way. Also asked for a water refill within the first 20 mins and we didn’t get it until the end of our 2 hour meal.
Finally, getting the check was a NIGHTMARE. We were a party of 5, but split the bill evenly between 4 people. Did not request separate checks- just to split the bill evenly 4 ways. After the server ran the 4 cards, we saw that an automatic gratuity of 20% was applied. Their website said this would be done for parties of 6 or more. When asked about it she said they also apply it when the bill is $300 or more. We challenged this as it wasn’t listed anywhere & she agreed to rerun the check without the auto gratuity.
Then the check came back with 5 CCs instead of 4. Someone’s card from another party got mixed in & a portion of our bill was charged to a complete stranger. When we called this out the manager finally got involved & asked for everyone’s cards AGAIN. A 3rd time. At that point the right thing would have been to just comp & refund the portion of the bill that was charged to the poor stranger’s card. But they insisted on running our cards again so they wouldn’t lose out on the roughly $100 they incorrectly charged on that person’s card. We all got fraud alerts & have to follow up with our banks to ensure the first 2 charges are refunded. They did offer a free round of drinks at the bar for all of the trouble, but it was really uncomfortable. More should have been done to make it right. The way they handled the situation was...
Read moreUpdate....what a disappointing experience. I took a colleague here for drinks. There were lots of empty tables and we were told by the bartender that it was OK for us to take a table near the bar. We had a great gin and tonic that my colleague bought at the bar.
When we were ready for a second round, the hostess Mya decided to get confrontational with us. She stated that we never asked her to sit at the tables and decided then that she would not have us served. As a matter of fact, the bouncer even got involved to try and resolve things. However, Mya's arrogance and self righteousness was in full swing. She was determined to make it clear that all decisions went through her. The bouncer eventually took us outside and offered us a ticket into another bar owned by the same company. However he couldn't get us in tonight. So it was a useless attempt to help resolve the issue at hand. This was an establishment that I have been promoting for a couple of years now. Unfortunately it has hit the bottom of my list. Primarily due to the hostess Mya. I guess she will remain the Queen of Valerie....I do hope that her bosses see this and give her a lesson in customer respect. Valerie has officially lost a customer in me. I had another great experience at Valerie.
Once again, the place was vibrant with lots of happy customers. It was decorated for the holiday season and it's just such a beautiful space.
Our bartender Justin was fantastic! He really knew his craft. He was helpful and a true professional. My buddy and I really enjoyed some excellent gin cocktails at the bar.
We would have loved to stay for dinner, but we didn't make reservations and they were fully reserved.
I will keep coming back for drinks, for food for the ambiance. It is one of my favorite spots and hasn't...
Read moreI made reservations for 3 people on Saturday December 14, 2024. Upon my arrival I noticed that the restaurant was nicely decorated for the holidays, My party, which included two friends , were seated in the back of the establishment, and as expected, it was busy. Once seated I felt as though we were being rushed and somewhat pressured to place our orders before we were comfortably seated. Subsequently we placed orders for drinks and appetizers. The waiter had been summoned after one of my companions noticed that her beverage was received in a glass that was dirty. Once our orders were placed and only two of the three guests received an order. The third companion guest did not receive her food and after approximately 25 minutes a waiter had to be reminded about the third order. Which they obviously forgotten. and no explanation was given for the delay nor was there an apology. Needless to say, My friend was not pleased. My other companion sent her cauliflower appetizer back to the kitchen due to a rancid taste. She did not order anything else. My order of crab cakes and truffle fries were insufficient and substandard to say the least. Although we were not pleased, we attempted to make the best of our holiday dinner together. About 40 minutes after our departure , I started not to feel well. Once I returned home, I started to experience chill, nauseated and began throwing up. There was also excruciating stomach pains to the point were I passed out and had to be taken to ER. It was determined that I was severely dehydrated and was treated with IV and meds for a food borne illness ( FOOD POISENING ) served at your establishment. As I am still weak, have no appetite in the hopes that I feel better soon. Not only am I disappointed, but this makes me not ever want to...
