HELP USA Keener — Local services in New York

This facility had me in there 2months before they told me they needed my ss card and birth certificate because they claim that they were “too blurry to see” so I ask them why did it take so long for someone to bring this up and the director who had me in a meeting atp because I express my concern with the 3 different case mangers I had in the 2 months said “we telling you now” so that’s means no one even looked at my paperwork if they just now noticing that and only said something about it cuz a meeting had to be called with me because the day after I express my concerns the RESIDENTIAL AIDES didn’t want to give me my DETERGENT with the DIRECTOR claiming “ it could have a weapon in it” the staff comprise of mostly Spanish speaking racist I watched them try to belittle black men but respect Spanish men they kept my vitamin D drops in the “bubble” which is ridiculous I only seen my workers every 2 weeks if that to sign the sheet because I have mobility issues so they knew I wasn’t goin to walk up the stairs especially since they told me I couldn’t because of a liability issue none of the wellness staff ever said a word to me not how are you feeling how is ya legs feeling nothing Ms Williams told me “it’s a shelter sir” after I asked her about the smell in my room coming from the bed next to me so I informed her that I saw the staff telling ppl to take a shower and taking them to get their clothes to wash multiple times and she said ok we will see what we can do but obviously did nothing because according to Ms Williams it should stink because “it’s a shelter sir” this facility is corrupt from the top down they are depriving some men in here of their ss benefits and giving them a $25 gift card for the month this facility really need to be investigated because they are not trying to re house people rapidly in fact it’s the total opposite and if you’re disabled it’s worse one man told me he wanted to go in assisted living and they denied him but they have assisted living ppl coming in here to recruit anyone who want to go the staff has no respect they are not here to help although that’s the name of the shelter I’m only giving them a star because they won’t let you post your comment...

First & foremost, the maintenance director, the social service director, and the operations director, here at Keener are the terrible three, and should no longer hold those prestigeous positions and getting paid lovely while clients like myself have to reside in these deplorable downright depressing conditions. There is never adequate heat or hot water for showers. The hot water should run just as good as the cold water, however, you are very lucky when you can get a hot shower. Hopefully, you don't have a job interview or need to get somewhere very important and need to look your best because you will be very disappointed. Furthermore, the maintenance director takes it personally when we connect with 311 and make complaints like he owns the place. However DHS controls heat and hot water not the maintenance staff, so what is the real problem here? Consequently, these three people run this place together like it is a New York State prison instead of a place a man come and...

The Keener Building, while still better than the Schwartz Assessment Center behind it, is a clean facility with employees who see the men living there as an inconvenience instead of a populace that they're to serve.

My first night here I was told by staff that I would be assigned a bed at 10pm. The staff had yet to give myself and five other weary men a place to lie our heads until well after 2am. And even after that gaff, the original occupant of the bed given to me returned at 8pm that same day. So here I am displaced yet another night while the staff refuses to safeguard my belongings or even offer the solace of pretending to care about how tired I am.

It's despicable that they will treat us this way yet label us as clients. Where is the dignity...
