REVIEW FOR JCH SUMMER CAMP / YELADIM GROUP (3 yo) first session only
My 3 year old was in the Yeladim group with Ms Yosselin who was responsive and wonderful.
Drop off was 8:45-9 but we came late and that was ok, pickup is by 4:45 but we paid extra for late pickup which was supposed to be by 6. I often double parked on side street or parked in the “no standing” zone on 79th St. You have to go into the Jewish Center.
Food includes cereal for breakfast, lunch menu attached, they send a daily nap and lunch log for your kid. They have some sort of snack like pretzels and fruit. They dont mix meat and milk. They have a nap for about 1.5 hrs after lunch.
Play area outside is a roof-like turf with no shade, they go daily for 45 minutes. Not really a playground.
They have indoor swimming daily for about 15 actual minutes of pool time where they are one-on-one with an instructor and have a waist floatie. Kids can opt out.
Fridays they eat pizza, make challah, have shabbat and entertainment. Camp attended by Jewish and non-Jewish kids, my little one had Mexican, Chinese, and Russian-speaking classmates.
Overall very happy with the camp though I wish they used the app to send photos and more specific updates about what was happening during the day. My son enjoyed it and...
Read moreGreat disappointment. We contacted JCH for special needs group Summer Camp. Spoke to Natalia, who was so nice and told us that she is there for us and she will absolutely take care of families needs and even if JCH won't be a good fit for us she will make sure that we find something that works for the child. We were asked to send paperwork. Did so. Silence. Emailed Natalia. Silence again. Called her- she scheduled over zoom assessment, during wich another gentelmen took all our information and by the end just told us that we are not the right fot for JCH. than what are we doing for the past hour??.He told us to discuss all with Natalia and that she will call us back . of course noone did. Next day we got in touch with her ourselves. Natalia said that she does not have enough staff to meet our needs. Thats ok but did you not know that a week ago??Why strech for so long and waste our time??So Natalia said that she will look for solution and if none found than she will just help us find another camp. " Just give me time untill 5pm" she said. That was 5 days ago. We are family with special needs child. Its hard enough already. Shame on JCH of handling things this poorly. And Natalia, have no words. What a disappointment, seemed so friendly and willing to help and...
Read moreSomehow my son didn't like it. He had a hard time to adjust to it. From my experience, the supervisor is very nice and supportive to my son since he was crying not to go at the first few weeks. The teacher is good because my son seems all right when he mentioned the teacher. I would like to say the teacher assistant needs some improvement. One of the assistant there my son doesn't like at all. He seems scare of him. When my son in 3k, he never pushed or hurt anyone. But when it comes to jch, my son starts to misbehave. Then when he came back to his previous school for pre k, the teacher never said he pushed anyone. All I heard is the teacher praise him for being helpful in the classroom. And I don't really appreciate the classroom setting of the camp. From pictures I noted there are black garbage bags hanging on the window. I think for little kids, the classroom should be bright clean organized and interesting. Small children may not able to tell you what is wrong or missing but their feeling is so naturally true. Since he didn't enjoy it at all, I am not sending him back...
