DEAR CONSUMERS Cleanliness: This gym has amazing janitorial staff that are constantly working to clean up behind adults who don't throw away their cans. Who doesn't dispose of wet wipes and paper towels. They are continually trying to keep the gym sanitary because there are some patrons that don't practice safe and clean environmental practices when they are sick.
Equipment: Most machines in the gym tend to be pretty well taken care of. Granted, when equipment is broken, it won't get repaired for months on end. You can tell that this location doesn't have as much variety as the New Rochelle or Yonkers location. That can be because the Bronx isn't viewed as a top market location given the demographic it serves. Certain things like theft and attachments not being available aren't to the fault of the gym but to the nature of its guests.
Amenities: During the summer, the pool was unavailable for the hottest months of its entirety. Something that other gyms don't offer but wasn't able to be utilized by those of us who pay to go to a gym that offers a pool. The sauna is hit or miss when it's not available it won't be available for a minimum of 3 weeks. The filtration systems on the water fountain will be red for long periods of time, and just be wise and bring your own bev.
Staff and Trainers Host: Most days, the hosts are the most enjoyable part of the staff at this location. There are days when they are more engaged with each other than those coming into the gym. However, that's not a bother because they are still extremely friendly and welcoming 97 percent of the time. The young lady who is in charge of the host podium is always a pleasure and willing to answer any questions or even just create small talk to aid in a friendly feeling of belonging in the gym.
Sales Associates: Ramirez is by far the most personable and enjoyable member on that entire sales team. Unlike the majority that seem to operate on an ego and arrogant personality disposition, he is always in great spirits and eager to help and recruit new members.
Unfortunately, I was approached by a young man named Sean while myself and another member were doing our workouts in the trainer section of the gym. (KEEP IN MIND THERE WERE NO TRAINERS OR TRAINEES PRESENT) While this young man approached me, he stated that I couldn't record my workout. Not because of a complaint, but because my camera was at risk of recording others (receivingPT), and because I was occupying space that was being utilized for training by trainers and clients. His reason was " This space is for people who have paid to be trained and they might not want to be recorded"! I REPEAT AND AS YOU'LL SEE IN THE VIDEO BELOW THE SPACE WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY OUTSIDE OF MYSELF AND WHO I WAS WORKING OUT WITH! I'm fully aware that if there is no recording in the gym at all, then that needs to be enforced in all areas of the gym, not just selective areas that are empty. Especially given that I like everyone else, pay my monthly service charge to utilize spaces in the gym that are available. When there is no class or training taking place. This not only made me feel singled out but also begs the question when brain function is used to assess the scenario as it is presented. Everyone doesn't want to be recorded, and no one should be filming anyone who they don't have consistent from. However, if we can all see with both eyes that a space is empty what was the call to action for other than a small man's ego trip at a new location trying to assert the small amount of authority they so desperately need to achieve.
Trainers: This gym has amazing Trainers they are extremely pleasant and seem to genuinely enjoy what they do. No complaints to that team and keep up the great work.
General Manager: You can see where the arrogance has been able to thrive. There is never a pleasant interaction with this man. You can tell there is a general prejudice in his demeanor and treatment of certain patrons. DON'T BOTHER TRYING TO GET HELP OR SPEAKING WITH THIS MAN. Hope this helps you with...
Read moreAverage selection of equipment; CERTAIN members need disciplinary action taken on them from management A.S.A.P; prices aren't the best and it gets really crowded. In short: I would pass...But read on for a more detailed explanation as to why you should AVOID this LA Fitness.
A Little bit about why I joined LA Fitness in the Bronx: I am coming here from another local Gym, Star Fitness. Star fitness sadly went out of business; and as a result, I was looking for a Gym that was nearby for me that would not require a long commute.
That out of the way, back to my review of La Fitness in the Bronx...
LA fitness has a standard selection of equipment. LA fitness uses "Hex-weight plates"--which is really bad for Dead-lifting.Things are USUALLY in working order (machines, cable stations, etc.), they have a pool, they have a sauna, several showers, Private Trainers are available (at an extra fee), lots of things are repaired in a timely order, cycling and dance classes, child services, PLENTY OF FREE PARKING, free wi-fi, water fountains and is just an okay gym. It's not bad... but could be better! LA Fitness in the Bronx certainly needs newer equipment; more "Power Racks" would be greatly appreciated, and dumbbells over 100lbs would help many.
So..."why only 2 stars?" Well... The members here are... WILD, to be blunt... It has this "prison yard" vibe to it. Let me say this: SOME members here are rude, SOME members are spoiled, and SOME members are downright--just careless-- (putting it nicely so Google does not remove my review)! Fights sometimes break out! Many members bring gear to somewhere in the Gym and never returning them (so... good luck finding "that" piece of equipment), SOME members will try and take the power-rack away from you when you are clearly using it, or just constantly harassing you with the "how many sets you got left" cliche, many here never re-rack the weights, LITTER ALL OVER, and certain people bring in their own portable speaker system!...This is VERY--VERY-- poor behavior from "ADULTS" and it comes off as rude and obnoxious.
Membership fees are a bit too much, considering what the Gym has to offer. It ranges from $39.99 to $50 per month (depending on your down payment). However, you CAN get a pre-paid option by speaking with an associate; and that can be as much as $970 for a three-year membership. The pre-paid option is not advertised online, so you will have to go in and speak with someone about this.
Yes, IT DOES GET RIDICULOUSLY crowded! I think this is due to the fact that management oversells memberships, offers TOO MANY free "three-day passes", and daily walk-ins. Also, to make things even more over crowded, the hotel it is attached to gives its guests access to the gym for free. Yeah... it gets way too out of hand sometimes...
Considering the options in the area, LA fitness located in the Bronx is a Gym you might want to skip.
Thank you for reading and I hope my...
Read moreI checked out this gym in July 2023 with the 3 day guest past in my quest for my next gym. Well this gym was pretty big and I like that there was designated area with a lot of space for parking. I met Gabriel who asked me if I would like a tour and the run down of prices. It was great that I didnt have to ask for a tour like I did in other gyms. If you need to Freeze your membership it is $10 a month which I didnt like because why would you pay $10 to do nothing. On to the gym. I checked out the sauna warm sauna and really helped to relax my muscles after some intense workouts. The place looked clean and also lots of machines for just about any part of your body. Even some workout machines that I haven't seen anywhere else. I liked the locker room because it had a different more elegant feel to it than other gyms I have gone to. The bathroom was nice and clean for the most part with people cleaning each time I was there. They had cleaning supplies for the equipment but looks like they are transistioning from a diapenser and paper towel to a system similar to blink where its an all in one pull out the moist paper, clean and throw away system. Hopefully thats better because I did see a warning on the other cleaning stuff to not let it touch the skin. Also they will follow up with you to see if you are interested so be prepared for phone calls. I also took two classes which was included in the guest past. I took kickboxing and that was ok. I enjoyed the instructors energy. I just felt at times he was doing his own thing and a lot of us couldnt keep up. He also was speaking in another language quite a few times and I couldn't catch the jokes so felt a little out of place. I would rate it a 5 out of 10. The music was pretty good and kept you going. The other class I took was with Milly I believe. This was a bootcamp class. I cant lie I went in not knowing what to expect and a little intimidated by the name. She had a lot of energy and did the moves with us. The music was fun and current and her energy kept me on track. There were times I had to stop because my knee was hurting so I would live to see modified versions of some of the moves although I did create my own . I love that she pushed you to keep up and encouraged you. I would definitely recommend her class. I came around 4pm the first day and it was not too full. The other days I came in the morning. I was surprised how full the gym was in the morning on a Friday. All in all this is a good gym only thing missing for me was the pool/jacuzzi doesnt work yet even though that is not huge for me the mentioned August so that sucks for people that are paying for that. I did not see a basketball court for people that are into that. I know a lot of other L.A fitness have it and there is no hydromassage which I love to utilize after a workout. The Sauna helps but not the...
