What a disappointment. Made Man had me in and out of the seat in about 12-15 minutes, for $38. When I checked out, I had to remind the hostess that I actually prepaid when I booked my appointment online. When I turned around to leave, there was my barber, sitting in the chair on his cell phone (as were several other barbers), and nobody even offered a goodbye when I left. He couldn't have spent maybe 5 more minutes on my cut instead of sitting on his phone? $38 for a subpar 12-15 minute haircut is simply unacceptable, considering the competition.
In contrast, I pay the same $38 for a scissor cut at a salon further up in Midtown, and they take about 40 minutes for my cut, they give me a wash and shampoo (Made Man does not), they offer free espresso and a shoe shine (Made Man does not), they offer you product for your hair at the end (Made Man did not), and they all have the courtesy to say thank you and wish you a proper goodbye before you leave. Their only drawback is they close a little earlier than Made Man - a very minor consideration.
As a concierge of a hotel nearby, I try out the services of local businesses on a regular basis, which I always feel obligated to do before recommending them to hotel guests. I don't advertise my position - I just go in as a normal every-day client to get a realistic first-hand account of the service and overall experience, and do my due diligence. When I encounter a disappointing experience like at Made Man, I always reach out to the management directly first - which I did over a week ago. Having heard nothing back, I am left to assume that Made Man doesn't value my feedback, which is really quite unfortunate. As such, I don't see the value in returning, or recommending them to others, until I've heard something from their management, and I feel that other prospective clients have the right to know about my...
Read moreSo today was my first experience at any of their locations and due to unforeseen delay, I was 9 minutes late. I took ownership of that and called ahead to warn them and even offered to wait a bit if the appointment behind me was already present. I understood this might wait might be 30-40 minutes due to my tardiness which was OK. The girl on the phone tells me to come and they’ll sort it out when I get there.
So I arrive and the barber—ALISON who I had the appointment with and was recommended to see by a friend of mine is audibly bad mouthing me to the current customer in the chair as I sat down on the bench behind him before realizing I had arrived.
He then goes to the back of the shop with the female manager and visibly starts arguing somewhat loudly and becoming animated before the poor female manager came back and told me that he wouldn’t see me and I could wait more than two hours (7:40 pm was the next appointment and I arrived at 5:29pm for the 5:20 pm appointment) for another barber to which I refused. I’d give that location and more specifically Alison a 0 if I could for his complete lack of professionalism. Mind you I’ve heard other customers had shown up much later than I did and he had no issue with it in the past.
I ended up rescheduling at the Broadway location with a guy named Nick who very courteous and respectful and did an OK job. That is the only reason I’m giving any stars at all.
*Again I understand I was 9 minutes late, I totally get that and take responsibility for that. But to act that classless and throw a temper tantrum was unacceptable. I’m sure he’s run late once or twice but his customers probably don’t react that way each time that happens. ALISON needs to be more respectful and learn to...
Read moreI just had my hair cut by Adam at Made Man Barbershop, and I am absolutely blown away. The shop itself is fantastic; it's clean, well-lit, and everyone there is incredibly friendly and welcoming, creating a great atmosphere right from the start. I can say without a doubt it's one of the best cuts I've ever had. Adam is a true artist and an exceptionally skilled barber.
From the moment I sat down, he was incredibly focused on understanding the style I was going for. He didn't just listen; he actively worked with me to craft a look that was perfect for me. The result is a style that not only looks fantastic but has genuinely made me feel great and wiped away any insecurities I had about my hair.
Adam's technical skill is second to none. His scissor work is meticulous, and he shaped the texture of my hair beautifully. And the fade? It's easily among the best I've ever received. He took his time with careful attention to every detail, ensuring everything was perfectly balanced to draw the eye to all the right places.
If you're looking for a barber who is a master of their craft and truly cares about the results, you have to go see Adam. I couldn't be happier with the experience and the final result. Highly,...
