PROS: -awesome central location in Midtown for a fantastic price! there were multiple subway stations within walking distance and I never had to walk more than a couple of blocks to get to them
-you can tell they’ve put a lot of effort into making this building look as nice as possible. the fun wallpaper and modern decor made it feel more high scale
-the staff members were really friendly and always there if I had any questions
-my bed was SO comfy!!! I looked forward to coming back to the hotel every day just to sleep in it ;)
-the cooling unit in the window kept my room cold the entire time (which felt especially nice after a long hot day of touring)
-even with the shared bathrooms I never had to wait to use the restroom or shower and the bathroom was always stocked
CONS: -no elevator (I was on the fifth floor and definitely got my steps in by walking up and down the stairs. even though I hauled my own luggage up the stairs the staff DID offer to carry it up for me so that was very nice and professional of them)
-I would suggest bringing a set of earplugs (between the cooling unit, people walking outside your room to get to the restroom, the noise of people walking up and down the stairs, general noise of NYC, etc. there’s some obvious noise). I didn’t have a huge issue with this because I was in a more secluded corner of the hallway. but if you’re by the restrooms or stairs you’ll hear people walking by a lot
-bring shower shoes if using the shared bathrooms! the bathrooms were cleaned regularly, but there are still unavoidable times where you have to hop in the shower after someone just used it. there’s also not a lot of space to change in the bathrooms or put your stuff, so just bring a towel and a robe to wrap around you and walk back to your room to change :)
-there is a $150 incidentals hold that they put on your account when you check in and refund when you check out. I expected there would be one because most hotels do that, but it would have been nice to have that price included in the confirmation email so I could have been more prepared
OVERALL: -prime location! -unbeatable price! -will definitely stay again and recommend to family and friends coming to...
Read moreThe Flat NYC hotel was the worst experience I’ve had at a hotel. The King Suite room floor was dirty upon arrival. Staff did promptly sweep & mop after we requested. Only 1 outlet worked by the desk. The walls are thin.
Early the next morning I was awakened by loud housekeeping/front desk staff conversating & whistling in the lobby. After falling back to sleep, I was awakened by a staff member entering my room & turned the light on. She did not knock! Just walked right in. She was showing another potential guest the room. They left the room with the light on & door open.
I later confronted the staff member at the front desk. She claimed to be the manager & provided little information for her superior. It was later determined she lied & was not the manager. I spoke with the management later on that day. All the other front desk staff seemed professional & friendly.
Later in the evening, I sat on the bed putting on my shoes. The bottom left corner of the bed frame broke! The bed is not mounted & rolls across the tile floor.
I also swept the room floor myself. Since house keeping again hadn’t done it. They were gone for the night. The front desk guy didn’t even offer to take care of it.
The king suite room had no mini refrigerator.
The bathroom was small & nice. The hand soap, shampoo & conditioner, had a nice fragrance.
The Flat NYC seems more focused on their public appearance on their website. Looks are deceiving!
The Flat Nyc needs to invest in staff that possess organization skills & attention to details, provide clean rooms, repair outlets, & quality sturdy furniture. They need to take care of the trash smell in the hallway to rooms 101-103.
The Flat NYC does have a good location in the flat iron district. The rate is low for the area. You get what you pay for!
I don’t recommend staying here despite the price. The management did discount the room. The hassle & stress isn’t worth staying here. This was my first & last stay at the...
Read moreThis is closer to a hostel than a hotel. That may work for you and your budget but be aware of what it means: the barest essentials, an uncomfortable bed, and thin walls.
I think reviews should be relative to the price point; don’t expect a Michelin experience at a McDonald’s. This is a budget option, but even so I think 3 stars overall is slightly generous. Here’s what I experienced in the Standard Room option (full bed with private bathroom): when I first walked into my room, I was frankly a little shocked. Uneven patched walls, a high ceiling with dim lighting, a floor that was not obviously dirty but somehow sticky. It all made me feel like I was in an escape room. The bed is makeshift with slats 3 feet apart, enough to make me sink in between them while on the mattress (I’m 6’ and 175lbs).
Relative to the bedroom the bathroom was the standout feature. The water pressure and water heater were good and the overall size and build quality were what I expected at the price point - it covered the basics well. One final positive: the A/C unit in my room worked well, even during the hottest week so far this year in NYC.
I don’t think I had too high of expectations for this room. I knew it was a budget option for the location. But $200 would go a long way: a couple additional bed slats, an Ikea rug, slightly better lighting, and WD-40 on the bathroom door hinges.
If you’re on a tight budget, your back can withstand the bed, you’ve got great ear plugs, and you can easily disassociate from eerie vibes then you’ll probably be fine. Otherwise for $100 more you’re better off at The Motto down the street or...
