Nice space for shooting, for reasonable rates. For people driving to the studio, note that parking is pretty awful, and I didn't see anything on the studio website about advice for parking, which I feel to be an oversight.
The studio definitely suited the purposes of my project, and I am happy with the shots I got. However, I wasn't fully satisfied with my experience, due to the group of people who rented the room next to us. I know this is not necessarily the fault of the studio owner, but it should be noted that other people may not be following or even aware of all the rules. During my shooting time, the group next to us interrupted us TWICE to knock on our door and complain about the music we were playing at a reasonably low volume from one of our phones. They justified their intrusion by claiming they were filming interviews and could hear the music. In the rules on the studio website, rule #19 clearly states: "Please note: you will not be able to record clear sound in our studios. The spaces are not soundproof, it’s loft buildings, there might be some noise from the street and from the neighbors." Out of courtesy, we shut off our music the first time, giving them the 20 minutes they requested to finish shooting. The second time they knocked, we got annoyed because we had already given them 20 minutes even though we weren't obligated to do so. Even though I was starting to get pretty upset because they were interrupting my project and I paid to rent the space just like they did (while WE followed all the rules), we STILL shut our music off for another 20 minutes. For goodness sakes, read the rules people. Please note that there is NO rule on the website that forbids the playing of music.
This was particularly annoying, because I was shooting portraits that involve dance and gesture (examples attached). Playing music was an integral part of the process in helping me get the shots I needed for my...
Read moreVery unprofessional!!!! I’ve been apart of many shoots in spaces of much higher caliber than this one. My gripe is less about the actual space and more about the studio representative and the negative unprofessional energy she gave off and left behind. I’ve never booked a studio that wasn’t accessible to me 10-15mins ahead of time to do a walk through and go over house rules/ do’s and don’ts. Not only did she arrive late she returned 10 mins early to cut our session short. Professionalism is extremely important and money is something that if you lose it you can earn it back but time is different once it’s lost it’s gone forever not just for you but for all parties involved. Please brush up on studio tact and use this constructive criticism of your establishment...
Read morestudio was really dusty with equipment not working, host unfortunately became very condescending over messaging and proceeded to send me paragraphs at 4AM after our conversation ended. didn’t realize other folks were having issues with professionalism in their communication, but wanting to warn others so you don’t have to deal with this! probably fine to book if you need a small space and are okay with not relying on the equipment working, but also didn’t seem like it had been...
