I saw recommendations on social media and decided to try out Mingle soho. I booked with Sayuri in the beginning of august and arrived promptly during my appointment time.
She greeted me and was very nice. We started washing hair and it was very basic no thrill - 1 shampoo 1 conditioner, not the most gentle but gets the job done. I would say the wash was definitely below average and my shirt was wet, but I’m here for haircut so it’s okay if the wash isn’t the best.
I showed her pictures of style I have in mind - layers that start high, so it would give me some volume and frame my face nicely. She was hesitant to say yes/no but said she can fix my current layers. After a 10-15 min haircut, she decided to start blow drying and styling my hair, which originally caught me by surprised but my old stylist would perfect the cut after the hair is dry so I let her be. After that, she just removed the haircut apron and told me she was finished with her service (didn’t quite ask me if I wanted to fix anything) The appointment I had was 12-1 pm, but I was effectively out of the door (paid and everything by 12:36pm)
I came home and washed my hair the next day, and found out besides 2 inches shorter, my hair is really exactly opposite of what I asked for- dull and straight, somehow less volume than before and layers were super low and weighted my hair down even more. (See pictures)
Though she was nice and the price was reasonable (53 for haircut, and I tipped 25 on top of that), I will not recommend or return for...
Read moreI am new to New York, so I found this salon on google. I booked for a specific hairdresser and somehow when I arrived there, they assigned me to a different one. I gave him some instructions but it didn't satisfy me at all. And to be honest, my hairstyle is very low maintenance and my instructions are very simple, "short on the side and a bit in the middle to keep the fringe" (I even gave him a picture of myself for reference). A month later, I needed a haircut again but I didn't know what was on my mind, I decided to go there again. I booked for another hairdresser hoping this will be different. Unfortunately, the outcome was the same, how foolish was I. I am from Hong Kong and I have the same hairdresser for 10+ years over there (I don't tend to switch hairdressers). Also, I have lived in the UK and Switzerland on and off for more than 7 years, I have never had a bad experience in those places. Weirdly enough, as a non-French speaking individual living in Switzerland, the hairdresser there somehow understood my instructions and satisfied me. The fact that I had good haircuts outside of my home country (UK and Switzerland), I am really disappointed with the service they provide in here. SO, ASIAN MEN don't go...
Read moreI had a really really bad experience and had to say that please please make sure your hair stylist is fully understanding your needs from end to end or otherwise you will get a nightmare haircut like me did. I came across with Hiromi who I initially thought could a great stylist but after I showed her my ideal haircut images from Internet and doubled check if she understood this style, she said "yes" and didnt need to see the images anymore (though I asked whether she still needed to see it in the middle of the haircut). Then she gave me a super-super short haircut ever in my life, exactly like Chibi Maruko-chan but I emphasized a couple of times that I want the style in the photos that I showed to her (hair was on shoulder length) but she wasn't following at all. I said I wasn't satisfied at all because it was way too short and didn't ask me for confirm until the end. I had to say that she was not even listening to me at all and I was super generous to give her a bit tip but I couldn't even fit my new haircut with my clothing style at all. What I learned: find a stylist who fully understood you from beginning to end and could do great job. Really awful experience...
