If you've ever been to South Beach FL and walked down Ocean Drive, you're probably no stranger to endless restaurants with mouth-watering entrees and signature drinks prominently on display and those hustling hosts trying to lure you in with their specials.
At the surface, NYC's diamond district (47th St. btwn 5th & 6th Aves) is quite similar...Sparkling jewelry under bright LED lights, and sales reps trying to wave you inside for a closer look. Unfortunately, beneath all that street-level retail glitter can be substantial price markups...remember, these guys have NYC rent to pay!
If you made it to Google & Yelp though, you're already doing your research, and I'll tell you right away that Keith Saxe at NYC Wholesale Diamonds should be at the top of your list of jewelers. Shopping for a cushion cut engagement diamond, I provided Keith my budget and my diamond preferences over the phone, and upon my first visit, Keith had four different diamonds for me to examine. He taught me how to "Loupe" (view under 10x magnification) the diamond, and gave me a very thorough run through of the GIA certification process, the diamond market in general, and things to look for when reviewing GIA certificates and comparing stones.
In the interest of full disclosure though, I admittedly visited nine other highly reviewed jewelers, many of which were also "appointment only," with inviting staff and impressive diamonds to show off as well. While each brought on a different approach and personality, at the end of the day, it was easy for me to give Keith my business for his patience, professionalism, and kindness throughout the process. Over the course of three visits with Keith, we honed in to a diamond that was absolutely perfect. I suppose it also didn't hurt that Keith was able to provide me a stunning diamond that had better specs than the other jewelers, at a much lower price! :) I used the savings to splurge on a beautiful custom setting that Keith also provided, set, and polished in advance of the big proposal.
After proposing this past Saturday night (spoiler alert: she said yes!), when the ring didn't fit perfectly, Keith happily adjusted it, adding two ball bearings to the underside/inside for free, and warmly invited us back if we needed anything else.
I recommend Keith Saxe at NYC Wholesale Diamonds without hesitation, and look forward to returning when it's time for those wedding bands!
UPDATE (9/23/22): Keith delivers again! After several years with our beautiful engagement and wedding bands purchased from NYC Wholesale Diamonds, we had a small issue with the wedding band. Keith was extremely courteous and fixed the issue promptly and at no cost. We would have been happy to pay but Keith stands behind everything he sells and we wouldn't' hesitate to recommend NYC Wholesale Diamonds for anyone else looking for top notch products and even better service to...
Read moreMy family and my wife visited NY city for a holiday and whilst we were there we thought it would be a great idea to purchase a diamond for our 25th wedding anniversary.
We found Keith in January 2016 after reading all his reviews on his website and we really wanted to see for ourselves the person behind the 5 Star rating. It was so true that this man was a not only a true professional he was so well informed and knowledgeable and extremely honest and sharing his expertise in the diamond industry .
We were sorry we didn't buy at the time however 1 year later I searched high and low for his business card and I couldn't find it so I did a google map search of visuals based on my memory of 47th street and the lengths I went to find Keith through all my phone bills for the past 12 months to find a number that matches the building or resembles his name.
After weeks of searching I made a call and hoped for the best and to my fortune Keith answered the phone. I explained my situation that it was my wife's birthday and our 25th wedding anniversary and I really wanted to surprise her as we never bought because we ran out of time in NY. I couldn't believe that he actually remembered us on our 2016 NY visit.
I explained that I needed the diamond ring to replace the old one I bought 25 years ago and a celebration ring to go with it, this was all needed to be ready before our special day. Keith said he will do some research of his notes and would email me.
Keith was overwhelmed that I searched him high and low to find him, I called him back the next day and he told me that he explained to his wife that I contacted him and wow! even she remembered us. We met her downstairs in the foyer on 47th street as we were trying to find Keith and she approached to ask if we needed help and to our good luck Keith was her husband.
He was so confident and extremely helpful to make sure I arranged this event to happen and the secrecy of not telling my wife so he kept in touch by emailing me throughout the early hours of the morning with the time difference overseas made it just that more exciting for me to surprise my wife.
Keith made this all happen, he is extremely honest, professional and very caring to deal with me from the other-side of the world.
If there was such an award for the Diamond dealer of the year Keith would have to be the number 1 choice for this award, my wish is that people who read this review please please do yourself a favour and buy your diamonds from Keith Saxe and you will never regret dealing with him.
It really made the 25 years worth waiting for to make sure the diamond I was going to buy was from a reputable dealer.
Thank you Keith it was my pleasure to purchase and deal with the NYC best diamond dealer, you really made the event so special and memorable.

Read moreLike so many other guys, buying an engagement ring was a huge source of stress for me. It shouldn’t be, but let’s face it, it is. You have girls that are constantly comparing each other’s rings. You start hearing terms being tossed around like the 4 C’s (be ready guys to remember these by heart: Carat, Color, Clarity, Cut). “I love a cushion cut”, “I really want a halo”, “Would you rather a small VVS2 or big VS1?” meanwhile, if you’re like me, you Google search everything because it’s almost like a different language is being spoken. Plus, if you’re from NY like me, you have the added stress of hearing some of the horror stories about the Diamond District.
Enter in Keith Saxe. While I was searching for potential dealers, I noticed one consistency. NYC Wholesale Diamonds kept getting great reviews talking about how great Keith was. I’d go from site to site and there was his name popping up again. So I figured why not and shot him an email. Unlike other dealers, his thoroughness appeared right away. He asked questions like “Do you have a picture of something she recently liked?” “What is her personality like? Is she ostentatious or more quiet?” “Is she looking for modern or traditional?” This was so unlike other vendors, who basically said to come on down and we’ll figure it out day of (TIP: don’t do that guys. Put some thought into it, as this is a big decision). When I came to the DD that day, I met a few dealers before our appointment, just to do my due diligence. I wanted to get others opinions ranging from white gold vs. platinum to carat vs. clarity. Fast forward to our appointment and I knew within 5 minutes of sitting down that Keith was the person to go with. First, he was prepared. Going off our emails, he picked a few examples for me and explained the pro’s and con’s of them all. Second, he was completely upfront about all the details. Third, there was zero pressure from him. He says it in his bio, but it’s true. He was trying to teach and inform me, not pressure me to buy from him. Honestly, it was one of the most refreshing buying experiences I’ve had in a long, long time. As you may have guessed, I decided to go with him and it’s absolutely the best decision I could have made. My now fiancé absolutely loved the ring and close to 2 months later, she’s still gushing over it. I can’t reiterate how much Keith got it right. It was as perfect as perfect can be.
My final tip is yes, do your due diligence. Take some time to research and ask friends and family what they think. If you’re like me, go to dealers and ask questions and don’t be afraid to ask questions. It’s a huge purchase and you should be happy. But if I had to do it all over again, I’d easily go with Keith again. Best in the business as far as...
